I almost bought a Soul today and agreed on a price and the manager came back with $1000 more than the agreed price. Be warned of switch and bait prices. Kia of Roswell, GA will lie and try to rip you off! I walked out. I hate lying salespeople.
A lot of cars salespeople still suck. I had one deal hammered out and told the salesman I'll wait for the next truck shipment of truly new vehicles (not one that was test-driven by monkeys). He told me he'd call when my new car arrived. Two weeks later he called and tried to sell me the same car I had previously rejected. The General Manager got involved and promised to make it right, but...too late, I went to another dealer. Go to another dealer or work with the general manager if it's a convenient dealership.

That sucks Bill. Did they say why the price was $1,000 more than the previously agreed upon price? Were they offering you something more for that amount? Or just digging into your wallet?
I am not sure the price keep changing going up. I still do not know how much the Soul cost out the door.
Another scam sometime played is dealers saying you can get 0% or .9% interest and them come back saying you do not qualify even if you do to grab more of your $. The reason I use my credit union for financing.
Oh, and if you have an ad with the internet price, make sure you print it, save it to your phone, etc. The salesman was all ready to sell my car for close to MSRP ($26,000). I had the internet ad that stated the car was for $22,965. He didn't believe me until another sales guy looked it up, which he immediately said he would honor that price. It was satisfying to see the blood drain from the 1st salesman's face. Arm yourself with research and get the Kia that YOU want.
Another way to do it is to call and ask if they have the car at the print ad or online price. Of course, they could lie just to have you come in, but then that would be terrible customer relations. Since I was an hour away with a choice of blue or white 6 speed M/T Hyundai Elantra GT, I verified stock, price, incentives, rebates, amount of down payment, and told the salesman that I will buy if test drive is good. Painless.
Now on the Soul, it was supposed to be a barebones Soul+. Told story of another dealer listing car on website, but it was sold 3 days prior. Since it was their shuttle vehicle, it could not be sold. Offered another with addons. Told manager it was only worth a couple of hundred more. He talked with other manager and it was done. So got rear bumper applique, EC mirror w/Homelink, spoiler, cargo tray, cargo net, and flimsy cargo cover for $200.
When we purchased ours, there was a couple 2 desks over that purchased the exact same vehicle in same color with same dealer add on's for almost 3k more than we paid.
I so wanted to tell them but could not get close to them with their salesman in constant tow.
Almost any time you are working below the m.s.r.p. the sales manager or dealership manager will become involved.
I was trying to make a 2 car Hyundai deal back in 2005 on 2 elantras.
Made my offer and they said "no-way"
By the time I got home there was a message on my machine (anyone remember answering machines) saying to come back as they were ready to write the deal.
I called them and told them I was willing to come back next day but not to start any she-ite!
I came back next day and they started their little side show song & dance and I stood up and said
"Hey, I gotta go, I have a life too you know"
Lickity split the contracts came out and I bought myself 2 new elantras. Each one for over 5k off the m.s.r.p. (10k each o.t.d.)
Oh how I miss those days!
Haha Srad, I know what you mean. I felt the need for a good scrubdown when I got home from mine. Especially after the double feature starring the "Extended Warranty Guy" finished showing.
Our salesman told us to "get in our new cars and drive as fast as we could away from the dealership before the sales manager sobered up"
At the time, these elantras were stickering for close to 15k before taxes and I paid 10k O.T.D. all taxes included.
We did well.
I once went to trade a Thunderbird in on a minivan at a Ford dealership in Raleigh, NC. Capital Ford. After they insulted me with their trade-in offer and tried to bend me over on the price of the van too, I drove off the lot. I had a REALLY nice stereo system and cd-changer in the Thunderbird that the sales guy told me didn't matter a bit to them, that it didn't raise the value at all, etc, etc. Got home and like Sradiator said we had a message on the answering machine telling me to come back, that they would give me more for my trade-in and that they would drop the price on the van, blah blah blah. I called them and we worked out the exact numbers over the phone. The sales guy said come on in and sign the paperwork and we'll be done. Nope. Told him to drive the minivan to my house to deliver it and that he could take the Thunderbird with him. He agreed but before he could get to my house I removed the nice stereo and cd changer from the Thunderbird and put in about a $20 Radio Shack piece of junk stereo. Didn't even bother to hook up the antenna to it. Hooked up 2 front speakers and power/ground and that was it. Sales guy showed up soon afterwards, we signed the paperwork, and I watched him get in the Thunderbird to leave. Oh, the look on his face when he saw the stereo that was in the car was priceless. I installed the nice stereo and cd-changer into the minivan and we lived happily ever after. The End. :very_drunk:
When I bought my Kia I walked out as well. Wanted 16,8 for a base soul. Said no way. Next day he called 3 times before I answered and offered 15120. I went back and got it for 14880. otd have to be persistent with dealers and keep working them over. Be prepared to leave, really have to leave the first time you test drive something. Never buy on the first day unless they meet your price.
Yeah I unfortunately got caught with that... Being the first car I've ever financed, also being young and dumb lol... I was told they would sell me my soul base for 13,900, come to find out on my first payment I owed 17,000!!! Gonna be paying this sucker off for a while... Good thing I like it lol
