    First Oil Change

OK so first oil change 1500 miles i know this isn't the recommended service interval for a soul but i personnally believe you should change you oil after break in (1500 miles)

so everything was fine amsoil 5w-20 full synthetic new fram filter (i know ) i crawl up under my soul and drain the oil then i go to take off the oil filter i'm pretty sure they used a robot to torque that damn oil filter I damn near had an aneurysm trying to unscrew that bad boy well i didn't want to do the ol' screw driver trick in case the filter i had was the wrong one and i couldn't get the right one but finally muscled it off. so just for reference heres everything you need to change your oil

soul 2.0 engine (i believe the 1.6 is the same)

    5w-20 oil
    4 qaurts
    oil filter
    kia part # 2630035503
fram part # PH9688 (oil filter diameter 3.02)

    not used but highly recommended

all done in less than 20 min (would've been less but that oil filter was a biotch)

Thanks for this info! I know my husband is going to change the oil on ours soon (it has just over 700 miles on it). He is going to use synthetic, too, and it takes the same oil filter as the Elantra we traded in, and he bought a Kia one, so we are good to go.

AMSOIL definitely...use it in my bike for years.....I'm still not sold on 5W20 weight oil....I did my first oil change at 1000KM...went with Castrol GTX asI had no AMSOIL for my car....for dino oil it is the best and readily available....I may switch to synth the next oil change...I see AMSOIL now has 0W30 and 0W20 grades....that's probably what I will buy.

The WIX part number is 51334...

yeah castrol is very good oil probably my third choice behind royal purple

you think it would be a problem to invite the amsoil dealer group to these forums??

as for the 5w-20 i think with todays oils there really won't be a breakdown as with older generation oils when 20 weight would break down so quickly because of its low shear plus so we'll see what kind of mpg difference i get if any

i had the same problem holy hell it was on tight(and i am no small guy). i was like wtf? did they torque this thing on or what. i had to punch through it with a screwdriver(i know, i know) it took 2 full turns before i could get it off with my hand. also most of the gasket was ground off on the mounting pad and had to be scraped off. i got my wix filter and q horsepower 5-20. i changed it at 1000 i could only imagine if i waited till 7500 like the stealership recommended. although looking under the car i am impressed by how well thought out the assemblage is (drain plug, clutch slave, etc).

yeah that o-ring was ate up i almost feel sorry for the service techs that are gonna be changing oil for the first time in these things

as for the layout i think they couldve found a better place for the plastic undertray so that when you finally get the oil filter off it doesn't get oil all over the place

    1K here as well

    Heya all,

I have only owned one other new vehicle in my entire life, a Honda CBR 600 and I babied that thing like no tomorrow. My father always told me on initial break in if I was ever going to own a new vehicle, it's 500 or 1000 miles depending on the engine type. When the dealer told me that I did not have to change the oil until some crazy number of miles had passed I just smiled.

My dealership changed my oil when I got the tire replaced, as I do not have access to a garage or tools at the moment, however one of the guys is renting a house with a garage and I am tempted to start doing it myself. I have been a fan of Castrol GTX oil for years and WIX filters. But what is this buzz about synthetic oil? Is it really that much better guys & girls? Some one want to shoot me a PM and give me the lowdown please?

In the meantime, I'll read that link that is posted here and maybe a little Googling today to catch up on the best information I reckon. Again I am learning new stuff from you all so thank you.
