    Oil Change..

Contacted my dealer about my oil change my Soul is approaching 2.500 miles. Will change the oil at 3,000, will use what I always use Mobil 1. Checked oput the "evil empire" ( WALMart) Friday they do have 5W-20 in Mobil One. Thinking of doing the 0W-30 , and if there is a better oil filter than KIA's.
As for contacting the dealer, they will change the oil for me but if I want synthetic I must buy it on my own. The filter comes with a gasket from what they told me.
Was underneath the car a few days ago found the filter jsut have to fing the plug.

    Royal Purple

This would be my first new car ever. I have never got the chance to break in an engine. My last car was an Acura Vigor. I ran Royal Purple in it since I owned the thing. I love this oil a lot and it is a local company in Texas. Is anybody else here a fan of Royal Purple? I swear on the oil. I have not use their other products.

    Semi synthetic?

I was told my Soul had semi synthetic 5 w 20 oil from the factory. Used apparently to increase fuel consumption numbers. I used Fram and Castrol XLR until it was replaced with GTX in my last car which is still running smoothly after 20 yrs. and 250k kms. I also would recommend frequent oil changes done by someone you trust. The few times I had the last car's oil changed by someone else I always had trouble removing the filter the next time. One time the drain plug was not tightened enough and oil leaked out onto an expensive new interlocking driveway. The last time my oil was changed I just assumed the filter would be changed as well but it was not!

OK, first oil change for our Soul! Hubby did it. The car had 1,803 miles on it. He has always used Castrol Syntec, and is still going to in his Sonata, but he decided on Amsoil 5W20 (and he is going to use Amsoil in his bike, nitrosportman! Not based on anything said here as he doesn't visit the forum. Just did a bunch of research!). Anyway, he said it was a pain to take off the shield, and there is, in fact, a drain plug washer, even thought the Kia service dude told us there wasn't. Good thing we had some from the Elantra. Everything else he said was pretty straightforward. He was all excited because the car is 'quieter' now. And though it calls for 4.23qt, 4 is right at the line. And he said the filter wasn't too loose, but it wasn't super-tight, either. So there you have it.

P.S. I think it is hysterical that 'aneurysm' is a tag for this thread! LOL!!!

My vibe was the same way. We think they are put on by a freak of nature with a huge arm that has super human strength.
I use pennzoil synth in my vibe and thats what the soul will get as well.
I know people who had to punch a screw driver threw the filters on the vibe/matrix to get the very first filter, that was put on by the factory, off.
i use a filer wrench like the harder you wrench on it the tighter it gets.

If that is the case why not just let them do the change? and not waste the money on fancy oil and having to do all that my self. I mean 250k for a warrnty? how could I go wrong?
    Comments? ( oh boy)

Got my first yesterday at 3,000 roughly. I don't know who to trust the service department or the manual that says every 7,500. When I asked they said told me every 4,000. Now I drive 90 to 95% highway and I would think that the 7,500 would be correct.

Is there anyone here that knows whats a good time to change your oil for sure. 3, 4, 5, or 7,500 which is it? I would love to know for sure.

I Have a Jetta with 166,000 miles on it roughly and I've always changed the oil at 5,000 roughly. Have a Pilot 38,000 and I do that at 5,000 too, both seem to run great. I guess I answered my own question, 5,000?

As for oil I've always used Vavoline so in regards to what to use does it really matter?

    Gary
