I wanted to replace my rear badge but didn't want to do the fishing line method and risk scratching my deck. I also didn't want to break the tabs off the original emblem so it could be replaced as it was originally installed. After thinking about the fact that there was a switch that opened the deck, i knew there had to be a way to get to that switch for repair by the service dept without much effort.
Below are pics of the steps needed to get the emblem off or get to the deck switch....very simple:
First remove the rear panel by removing the two screws and then pull along the edge until the clips pop off...they come off very easily and aren't the type clips that break without excessive force. Once removed you'll see this:
Next you'll need to remove the 3 nuts that hold the rear handle assembly on (note to keep the deck up or keep a hand on the handle so it doesn't fall out after removing these)
To remove the factory emblem you'll need to get a small flathead screwdriver and gently pry the tabs on the back of the emblems tab so it can be removed. Once these are bent back you can push down on the emblems tabs and it will slide right out.
Once that's out you can install your new emblem and put the works back together. Took me about 30 mins tops.
