GT Spoiler... Hit or Miss?

Hey guys, so I've always had an idea of taking a GT wing and putting it on my Soul. Crazy, I know. But is it really that crazy? Could it work? I'm interested to hear everyone's opinions on whether you guys think I could pull it off or not and if the general consensus is yes then for the sake of science by God I'll do it!

When I hear "GT wing" I'm thinking of those large aluminum or faux carbon fiber park bench spoilers, would that be accurate? The top area of the hatch is sloped and not all that wide. Even if you had enough space to mount it, it would be angled weird. I haven't really looked at them too much before so perhaps there's one out there with a narrow enough base to mount on the Soul. Certainly not my cup of tea, but good luck! :)

This Extreme Dimensions® 102663 - NT-5 Wing Trunk Lid Spoiler is a GT Spoiler or GT Wing as it's commonly referred to, according to CarID this specific one will fit the 2013 Kia Soul. They only have three listed on their website that they say will. One is way too expensive and they other is this Spec-D® - Double Deck Rear Spoiler I just figure literally no one has done it before (probably for good reason) but I think it could work, there's also this Universal Aluminum GT Spoiler Wing - Black Type X Style :: Spoiler :: Body Styling :: Exterior :: Dash Z Racing which is low profile but could look good.

Do as you like. IMO, those aberrations must have fart can accompaniment and probably reversed wheels that stick out about 8" from the body, cut springs so the car bounces like a buckboard, and I suppose brain-damaging-loud sounds emanating from some device of the devil aboard.

Such a "spoiler" would indeed spoil the already-challenged aerodynamics of a Soul, probably bringing your highway MPG down to 21 or so.

You asked opinions. :greedy_dollars:

Alright guys, there's a guy on my local Craigslist selling a very minimalistic GT Wing (picture below). It seems to be split whether I should do it or not and frankly thinking about it I don't care if it doesn't look GREAT I just want to be the only one with it (as far as I've seen it's never been done). I live about 30 miles for the guy and have to drive to him and he was selling it for $70 however has agreed to go down to $50 considering the drive just to see if it would work. If it doesn't work I'll buy it anyways and sell it to my friend who will put it on his car instead.

The critical factor will be if the mounting pad design will be compatible with the curvature of the Soul tailgate. If it can't be mounted at the right angle it will look awful. It has to be mounted onto the tailgate in a position where the tailgate can be fully opened without the spoiler fouling the roof. These things are generally designed to mount on relatively flat surfaces of trunks or hatchback tailgates, so mounting to the double skinned Soul tailgate may be a challenge.

Alright guys I picked up the wing today and it's in near perfect shape. I had to buy a screw at Home Depot for the mount as someone had stripped it tightening it in at one point, and there are a few small scuffs that need to be painted as well as one tiny hole where a screw went through the other side of the wing and was hammered in. It would barely be noticeable when painted, I just need to figure out how to patch it slightly so no rain gets inside the wing (maybe use a soldering iron?) I didn't take a photo today as I said I would however BondiBlue is correct in that it is adjustable by I'd say an inch maybe an inch and a half but it's just enough that it will compensate for the mounting angle. I do have an idea about mounting it putting some extra pad and 3m tape to fill the small gap that could exist at the bottom of the mount where the slope is and screwing it in as tight as possible at the top of the mount. It won't interfere whatsoever with the opening of the hatch and the side cap things are out further than the edges of the car enough that they won't either. It's basically one of the only wings that really could work for the Soul as it's low enough while being wide enough.

Well only of course! I think I'm going to try something like gorilla glue's waterproof gel stuff or bathroom caulking or something of the sort to fill the tiny screw hole, sand it, then paint over it (maybe just plastidip the whole thing as it would waterproof it better?). I'm also considering when I mount it waterproofing the inside of the hatch where the screws go in since I won't be able to do a flat mount on the curved hatch and if I ever take it off I can remove something like bathroom caulking extremely easily and it shouldn't hurt paint. The difficult thing with this is there are no instructions whatsoever so I have to figure it all out myself however it'll be much easier for anyone else that chooses to do this after! Here's a photo I took today of me holding the wing up approximately where I will be mounting it. It looks good to me!
