Thread: Want to add DRL to 2011 Soul+

Hey guys so I saw a recent post by another soul member that added LED Daytime Running Lights to their 2012 Soul. I was wanting to do the same when I come up with the cash in the near future. Although I have a couple of questions that I was hoping you guys could possibly answer. I want to install the Daylight 8 LED Philips on both side in the front bumper where the license plate goes in the small cut outs provided on my 2011+.

1. Is it possible to do becuase on the Philips website says its not compatible for the 2010 Soul. But says nothing about the 2011 model.
2. Will it void the warranty through Kia? My guess is no. (But I could be wrong)
3. I've been looking at Califorina Law and I think it should be ok to do. But it would be great if someone could double check because I know the cops where I live love to pull drivers over for so called "illegal mods" or even if they think its illegal. Even though this is DOT compliant. (Link Below)

2. I think any time you splice into existing wires technically Kia can void your warranty on the electrical system? But rest of the warranty will still apply.
3. My understanding of CA law is that it's legal. You can consider it as license plate light I guess?

What if I were to have my Kia Dealer splice and connect just that one part for me. Would that work?

You can contact KIA themselves and ask.

The warranty on the UVO as far as I know is: as long as it was professionally done, warranty still stands. So, I would think that as long as your DRL's were professionally installed, the warranty would still be ok.

I suspect KIA is trying to keep people from sticking Ebay junk like 40 buck HID's on their cars and screwing up the electronics from the noise they give off along with using stuff like black tape and calling it waterproof and having warranty claims related to their own mess.

Yes I did see that one and that is where I getting this idea from
But that was a 2012 model and I know that the lighting has to be different compared to a 2011 right?

My point was, and it was only speculation, that if they only require it be a professional install on the UVO system, you would think it would be the same on the electrical system.

True...

At the dealer and asked I it would void the warranty. The guy explained that if I spliced into the parking wire it would only void that section of electrical and not the whole system. I'm not sure on how splicing of the wire actually works. If someone could help that would be great.
