I am not saying installing HIDs on a halogen housing without retrofitting, but just switching to white bulb. There are plenty of legal white/blue bulbs from Phillips/Sylvania. dmwanger, I am sure you have seen white bulbs on cars on the street that didn't blind you.

Yes you have a point, pretty much any bulb of legal light output properly aimed isn't going to be a menace.

Legal, possibly. But why have them if they are less effective than the yellower light bulbs? Why would you put bulbs in your car if it means you see LESS than you would with stock bulbs?

Thinking you can see better and actually seeing better are not the same. Must of the justification I have heard for those bulbs is, "brighter, whiter, see more! See better!" When it simply is not true.

I know I'm just some person on an automotive forum, as I said, ask a vision professional.

^^ How about people that just want white lights for cosmetic reason? It's not always about function, or else people would only wear white in the summer and black in the winter.

^^ ding ding. I love how my lights look on my white car. That tiny tinge of blue just looks beautiful.

How could headlights NOT be about function? The primary - in fact ONLY - purpose of them is so you can see. I don't understand why anyone would want to compromise that for a different appearance.

^^ to YOU they may just be about function, to others, they're also a part of the car's aesthetic appeal.
