Has anyone else put OnStar FMV in their Kia?
I have seen various posts looking to install gps for their soul. Here is the solution that has worked for me.
First I wasn't going to screw with my uvo/premium audio and whatever solution could not risk voiding warranty.
with standard mirror
36 Month lease
Purchased OnStar FMV mirror from local retailer (Car Toys) during $99 with free installation sale.
My actual cost for unit was $25.00 because they did not install.
OnStar is a service of GM and comes standard in most GM vehicles. The OnStar FMV is an aftermarket self contained gps communications and crash detection mirror. when you need directions, push the blue button and the live operator will come on the line. You give the the address to the op and they will send turn by turn audio directions to your car. They have also been known to round up theatre showtimes and nearby yogart shops.
Next I had my local Kia dealer install the OnStar FMV mirror.
This was a super easy install because the Onstar mirror mounted perfectly on the already existing factory mirror mount.
My understanding is that many soul+ w/premium audio package also have existing power wires overhead in the headliner. Thease existing power cable harness is in anticipation of possible future kia homelink mirror install.
My kia dealer service tech charged me $125 for install which was cool with me because it keeps me kosher with kia lease terms and kia warranty.
The Onstar FMV mirror gives me turn by turn directions, vehicle tracking, crash detection and hands free calling. Hands free calling is actually onstar's white label of Verizon wireless cell service. Yep, it a car phone with unlimited calling for $14 per month.
PS. Onstar gave me a free year of services because.... I asked for it.
I called them and told the guy I should be getting a free year like many of the new GM owners. LOL, he agreed.
