Spare Tire Kit (Which one)

I just purchased a spare tire kit for my wifes 2013 Kia Soul +. The car has 16" rims and the ad for the spare tire kit I got made me believe I was getting a 16" tire and wheel (+ a jack & tools). What I got was a 15" tire and wheel. I am really confused now as I have asked several dealers and I get different answers. The part number on the box says 09100 2k992 and I have seen at least one publication that says that part #09100 2k991 is for Souls with 15" rims. Also the styrofoam piece on the wheel I got is stamped 15" Both of these part numbers state 15" wheels and tires. Do I have the right wheel and Tire ? or is there a 16" tire and wheel for the Kia Soul +

Thanks in advance......

The way Kia and the ads do it, if you have stock 15" or 16" rims, the 15" or 16" spare tire kit will give you a 15" donut. If you have stock 18" rims, the 18" spare tire kit gives you a 16" donut. I don't know why they didn't just go with the 16" donut all around.

I thought about getting a spare but over 20 years of driving I needed it once. On top of that most time you can't get the tire off the car if its been awhile. And if you don't check the pressure at least twice a year they are usually flat. I figure get it towed and new tire just easier.

I also like the extra storage in case I want to throw stuff in it. Like jumper cables, extra quart of oil, fix a flat, and a repair kit.

Thank you all for your responses, especially Cobra259 now I know that I have the right spare tire. I too was reluctant to even get a spare tire because I have never used one either in 50+ years of driving and riding a motorcycle. In fact I make a lot of long distance trips on my motorcycles and just take along a plug kit and have always come back alive although I have plugged a few tires over the years. But my wife wanted a spare, and a plug kit won't work if you have a blowout. So we are all set. Thanks again for all your responses. And best of all KIA is going to reimburse us for the lousy gas milage (Life is Good).

Spare Tire Kit? My dealer quoted me over $250 for one and it was a space saver tire, not a real one.
So I bought a real tire and wheel for $100 and added my own jack & lug wrench.

It all disappears under the spare tire cover.

Out of sight....out of mind....till I need it.

To try and answer all the questions from the last two posters.......

The wheel wells are all the same. Originally made for a spare tire, jack and tools.

Just not a full size spare, floor jack and associated tools.

The only problem I had was with that little Gizmo that screws into the base, to hold down the spare.
With a full size spare, the bolt in the device was too short. But it was not a big deal for me to replace the
bolt with one about 3/4" longer. That did the trick! The spare tire is now, securely bolted down and there is NO rattle.

The cover did come stock, to cover up that ignorant RE-Inflation Device that sat in the wheel well.
The cover sets a little higher, on a full size spare, but that's really OK with me. No harm done.

The full size spare I got, came right from my dealer. They had taken four tires/wheels exactly like mine,
off of a customer's car, to put on some custom alloy wheels. Everything was there but the TPMS sensors.
They sold me the tire/wheel with a standard rubber valve stem, for $100. What a deal. Eh?

In case I hit something in the road and blow out a tire, I can quickly replace it with an identical tire and wheel and be
quickly on my way. I'll have a TPMS light on, but so what?

I understand that some people have had problems with the Hankook Optimo tires, but for me they are working great!

Cheers Mates!

Wow! That's a mouthful, and without even one comma! :laughonfloor

My base soul did come with that Styrofoam box, containing the Re-inflation device. I took out that worthless POS and stuck it up on a shelf in my shop. It looks much better there! And it's just as useful. rofl

I may actually take the air compressor and stick it in the center of my spare, just in case I need a little shot of air sometime. Maybe at the beach! :)

To keep things from rattling around in the back of the car, just wrap them in old towels. That keeps everything as quiet as a mouse blowing bubbles in a feather bed. :laughonfloor Works for me!

TechnoMage - Rodville is right, with a full size spare, its not the diameter that's the problem its the width of a full size sitting in the trough, then the cargo divider tray shown above does not fit correctly, it sits too high and you can't close the top lid.

I have been rattling the Smith KIA Dealer of Bellingham's "cage" ever since I bought my 2013 KIA SOUL PLUS in July 2012 about the lack of a proper spare tire and rim. It all falls upon "deaf ears" except for their stupid, rip-off, response that they would be happy to order one for me (includes the jack kit) for the exorbitant price of $195.66. Called one of the auto wrecking companies that has 5 locations. They only have a 15 inch spare, without the jack kit, for $100.00. That seems to be over-priced too. Would appreciate suggestions (Whatcom County, Washington State).

Being a DIY guy and a pretty good mechanic, I just put my own spare tire Kit together with a brand new 15" steel wheel and new tire that I got from my dealer for just under $100, with a standard rubber valve stem. The retail price for just the tire alone would be over $100 and likewise for a new wheel at dealer prices.

Then I just added the small 2-ton floor jack that I've had in my last two cars, and some appropriate hand tools, and VOILA.....my spare tire kit.
Everything is heavy duty and I don't have to worry about something breaking when I'm trying to change a tire, at night, along side the highway, in the rain.

To those basics, I've added the little air compressor that came with the Tire Re-Inflation kit that was in the car when I bought it.
Then I found there was also plenty of room for my 14' Heavy Duty Jumper cables and my 20' 6000# tow strap. If there's just one chance in a thousand that I might need something, in an emergency, it goes in my Emergency Kit.

My basic kit, set up when I first got my Soul, Sept of 2012.

The SAE socket in the picture fit VERY tight on the lug nuts, so I've replaced it with a Metric Socket (21mm) that is just right.

With everything tucked in tight, the rear floor panel drops in and hides it all.

With a little imagination and a minimum of cash outlay, you can put together a pretty good Roadside Emergency Kit.

I've already used my tow strap and jumper cables to help other drivers, on more than one occasion.
The floor jack, I've used twice, to assist drivers who's little scissor jack broke and jammed under their car.
Likewise the 24" Breaker bar..... good for removing those old, rusty and stuck on Lug Nuts.
And a 1/2" drive, Torque Wrench, for installing lug nuts and getting them set to the proper torque spec's.

Cheers Mates!

Hi, guys!
I just asked a friend to bring me a spare tire for my Exclaim ! 2013 with 18" wheel. He brought me one (donut tire), and told me he got it from an 2015 model, assuring me it would fit perfectly. I remember it is155/80R 16. It looked a bit bigger, and it hardly fit the space room in the back of the car. I searched online for different spare tire spec. for kia soul models, and found that spare tires made for the second-generation (2014-2019) don't fit the firs-generation (2010-2013). I have not yet tried that spare tire on my car. My question now is would that spare tire I bought fit on my car 'healthily', or should I ask for my money back and go looking for another one myself?

Please any advice?
