If KIA can keep the current 2011 price [i doubt] on 2012 Soul with new engine/trans/cosmetic updates shown in NY autoshow, 2012 Soul may become top 10 best selling vehicle. price alone can't compete but it has to be a total package. KIA and Hyundai can no longer be consider "cheapest" vehicle to purchase because of latest engineering costs too much. amazing how Hyundai/KIA is pumping out 6speed and DI engines on so many models so quickly. compare to Honda and Toyota, KIA and Hyundai is moving at a light speed but and hope quality keeps abreast with changes. I guess Toyota is the "old" GM.

the Versa is competition for the Accent and Rio, not Sonatas and Elantras, at least compare in the same league, otherwise it doesn't mean anything. Impressive 109hp 1.6L -:D

still nothing to compare to the Soul, unless you count the Cube.

If that's all they got then Kia has nothing to worry about.;)

Yes those pics are best on net!

Looks like winner, versa is alot nicer than current RIO. Yeah comparing soul and versa isnt a perfect comparison but not bad. Ive been looking for new car with automatic and cant find anything out there. Honda accords could'nt stand trying to get in and out 2011 model. Nissan alitmas could have sworn those were used lol not impressed. Maxima was nice but $34k no thanks. Sonata seemed cool but room inside is marginal. Elantra I wanted to try out but all were pretty much sold on lot at over 18k. Nothing is impressing me right now. Worst part about it is I want to trade in family 05 Scion XB offers are not enough paid $16.700 offering 10k less. Even if I sold car 10k then traded in elantra id owe 9k. Not that great deal and im sure elantra will be 10k car fast! Still like my soul and nothing compares for money I paid. New Versa they will hold up prices so that might be year or more down road argh. Forte I would pick up in mean time as cheap runner but cant find a proper deal on one. I should be all rebates for comp vehicle $1000, own kia $1000 plus rebate $1000 might even be financing rebate $500 not sure if there stackable. If so Id get little forte in mean time to hold out.

Corolla stated the interior room of the Sonata was "marginal". Huh? Can you explain? It's bigger than any other car in it's class when it comes to interior room. There is no way you can get in a Sonata and think the interior room is "marginal" unless you're a really big guy. It's certainly bigger than the maxima, Altima, Accord, etc.

LOL!!!

Versa!!

HAHAHA!!!

When I was car shopping during the cash for clunkers time, the dealership was a KIA and a Nissan dealership, and I was looking at several low buck cars....the Rio, the Spectra, and the sales guy kept trying to get me to look at the Versa....and I took one look at that ugly eyesore and told him not a chance....he kept on babbling about the features and the "Nissan quality" and whatnot, and i wouldn't even walk over to the car, with the clunker deal he told me I could have got that hideous thing for like $6000 or less, which would have made alot of financial sense, but ewwww, I could not see myself driving such an eyesore. Anyways, it was a little later while on the lot that I took a closer look at another goofy looking vehicle, the Soul....a different sales guy talked me into test driving it and I was sold on the car. That dealership never got a dime from me because of the crap they tried to pull in the negotiation stage, but I fell in love with the Soul that day.

Oh.....my point....the Versa is not competition for any Kia really.

@Fernando. One of my neighbors owns a Juke. The looks still have not grown on me. And yes, the Versa is better looking than the Juke. My apologies to the oatmel cookie fans.
@ Corrola. Take a look at the 2012 Kia Rio. Bigger, badder, smarter faster than the Versa could ever hope to be.

New Nissans

To me, the interior on the new Versa sedan looks totally downgraded, cheap, and dated. I think the outgoing model has a much nicer looking interior and I'm surprised there hasn't been more commentary about the new interior looking bad and way behind the competition. That center stack looks like something from a 1995 economy car. The new Rio will be WAY better than the new Versa sedan. I say this as someone who likes the Versa model, and almost bought a Versa hatch instead of my Soul.

Interesting thing regarding the 2012 Versa hatchback is that the photos coming from China show a totally different interior than the sedan, which looks to be a lot better. It would be interesting if the sedan and hatch get different interiors though.

I am also curious as to what the 2012 Sentra will bring. There is a pic floating around the internet that is said to be the 2012 Sentra which looks pretty sharp.

old thread but the title is appropriate. Check out this video on the new Chev Trax (NOT AVAILABLE IN THE US), possibly more of competitor against the SX4 as it offers AWD.
It's based on the Sonic platform using the 1.4L Sonic turbo engine. It's slightly longer than the current Soul but the overall cargo area is not quite as large. About the same height and wheelbase as the Soul, but legroom, headroom, hip and shoulder are not as good as the Soul. MSRP in Canada $18,495 for the base model to $27,380 plus options for the top model which will take you over $30,000.

In fact, this GM product is in competition with the Sportage, and to a much lesser extend with the Soul. The Soul isn't an SUV. In 2014 possibly it may become, but they need an AWD system for this to happen.

The Soul competes against this Chevy the same way it competes against the Honda Element. Give me the latter for the same price of a Soul, and it's still a Soul that I wanna drive. Add an AWD option to the Soul, I will not order it. I couldn't care less about AWD (even though I live up north). So I guess that qualifies me as a typical Soul prospect. The only competition in my mind to the Soul was the Cube. I didn't even dare to perform a road test on the Cube..

So Chevy Spark/Kia Sportage/Hunday Toucson/Nissan Juke, Honda Element, and the likes will struggles whilst the Soul is attracting people who are not looking for a truck, or even for an SUV. It may be a matter of time though. Soul's popularity will continue to increase, so it should be long before the market reacts specifically against this threat.

This is my interpretation, for what it's worth..
