    Winter driving

My wife and I have had our SOULs for six months and have been dreading the onset of Winter. It has been a few years since we've had front wheel drive cars. In Northeast Ohio we get some severe Winter weather. We bought our SOULs and we figured they'd be "good enough" for Winter. We didn't expect anything great, just good enough. I have to say we were pleasantly surprised. These little cars go through the mess like tanks. They are very stable and surefooted. I have driven on back roads covered in snow about a foot deep before the plows had been out. The SOUL pushed through with no trouble at all. I hate Winter, but we'll get through it safely in our SOULs!

Agreed! I didn't quite know what to expect being that this is my first winter with my Soul. I am very pleased so far. Has went through snow no problem and is very stable as you said. Needless to say, a big step up from the Ford Ranger I was driving before it!!

    Winter Driving

I to must agree that our new Soul has very good road manners when it comes to winter driving! We had goodyear snow tires installed before we picked her up and I can honestly say that front wheel drive+good snow tires=a very good winter drive!

My 2011 Sport has done great with the Indiana snow. I have the 18" tires and haven't had any problems.

That's good to hear. I work in New Castle, PA, not far from where you are, and live down in Beaver County, so winter can get brutal here at times as well.

I dread it every year because of other drivers mostly. Got stuck my first time in the Soul last weekend, at the foot of my driveway. Tried to cheat and plow through a foot of snow and get my son at his friends house. Ended up easily pushing it out maybe a minute of pushing slash rocking. I was surprised to get stuck but it appears they do get stuck in at least a foot of snow. This snow was the worst kind, the heavy stuff that clogs the snow blower,

My Soul has done awesome here in the cold winter of Calgary..I forgot to plug in when it was 25 below with a -41 wind chill and it started perfectly...
I put on some 16 inch Hankook Winter bear tires for the winter and it grips perfectly....

The only bad thing is that the paint will chip with there being so much gravel on the roads... I got a clear film bra for the from from 3M when we bough our Soul..best investment ever...

No problem with my Soul and the snow so far this year.<fingers crossed>
With the Soul being so light and with the flat tall sides the only issues I've had are roads with icy patches where the wind blows me around. It feels very unstable but I'm still on the stock tires and wheels.

I'm in Calgary, and the Soul is freaking terrible. We're calling the stock tires "3 season" - there is absolutely no, none, zero, possible even negitive applied grip on roads. I'm driving the lux model with the 18" tires - bought end of June/July with only 3200 km.

I'll absolutely need to buy different tires for next year (I'm going to tough it out for the moment). But yeah, the stock lux 18" tires are absolute crap for winter driving.

Clarification: I love the Soul, the tires are the problematic thing here.

Here in Northern California on the coast half, winter means rain. Sometime a little rain (draught years) and sometimes storm after storm of rain. This year is turning out to be a heavy rain season with the past several storms having really heavy rain as part of the storm (you know, where you still can't see when the wipers are on super fast). Yesterday (Christmas Day) we had a lot of heavy rain in different parts of the day. Our Soul did great going through big sections of standing water on the freeway. I've been in cars, trucks & vans that ended up hydroplaning and it is scary! I am very pleased on how it went.
