lol. legal limit here is 35% which is nothing too in the front, but Ive been tinting my front windows 20-10% which is illegal on all my cars for the last 9 years in MO, IL, and now AZ and have yet to get a ticket. not too concerned.

if its legal in your part of the world, the tint company can measure how dark the rear windows are and how much tint they then need to add to your fronts to match.

I could have sworn that someone on here posted that they had the fronts tinted to 22% and it matched the back perfectly.

I do on my Sorento. But the SOUL the dealer did as part of the sale. And screwed me over on it allot. To fix or retro fit is useless now. But I do not drive it much so the person that does, never had tint till now and loves it. So it is all good. But like I always did before, DO IT YOURSELF or have it DONE for you outside the dealer. Or be unhappy more often with what you get and can not turn back time on.

You will find the key to this Rodville is how they measure it when a COP stops you. By law ALL they have is that % that is legal, weather they (gee a cop makes a bad judgement call never happens) think it is bad or good in court to a judge is moot. The ticket gets thrown. And that is the FEDERALLY APPROVED Light Refraction Meter. Nothing else matters in ANY State. So if the meter says COOL it is. Unless Roscoe P Coaltrain is the cop and BOSS HOGG is the Judge. Watch out for Flash too he is SNEAKY! Know the meter, know the limits (two ways), know how to install the tint to meet that.
Education is wonderful folks. What is printed on box is a GUIDE.

This doesn't answer your question but my base had no tint. I did 5% around the back, 20% on the front doors and 35% on the windshield. I've done all my cars either 5% or 20% and the windshield always 35%. I've never had a problem in 16 years until about a month ago. An officer was behind me until I was about to get on the interstate then he left me alone. My passenger wanted me to go another direction so I got out of the right lane and he quickly braked, got behind me again and pulled me over for the tint. He said he was going to let it slide but since I gave him another opportunity it was bothering him. He gave me a $60 ticket for the windshield tint. MD law says no tint below the ASCI line on the windshield and 35% is the darkest for the rest of the car.

Well yes you did give him one. Do not listen to the wife, they get you in trouble like he told you and you found that day. Just ignore them and drive on. And if SOMEONE needs to go back the way they came go to a exit further down spend five mins and turn around do not go QUICKLY to an exit as you did. GLARING fact you did and stupid. Just as a SEATBELT missing would get you pulled over and then a ticket for what they find later. A tint ticket too that day if it had gone down that way. Now as for the tint itself, upon giving you the ticket did the officer have with him and use a Light Refraction Meter as required by law? No eye balling allowed and he knew it or was equally stupid. And did it if he did use it and have one say it was illegal % and or did you have a lower then the ASCI line windshield band? If niether is true judge throws out. And calling the judges clerk/prosecuters office/Court Clerk bringing the charge before the judge that day before hand with this info and haveing them throw/dismiss before or even so you do not go to court. Is wise. They can, and will to clear up GLARING menusha on the COURT DOCKET and speed up things for that day to get ot real issues for the judge to deal with. Plus if the Cop has a habit (they will not tell you and you really do not need to care) of this they know it and are faster to throw/dismiss, base on the facts without asked him the cop. But this is all up to you. It is your $60 and yours for you to look into insurance business. Many factors make for a naaa not worth the effort and a HECK YEA this is worth the effort!, this screws my insurance. It is a personal choice in the end. Know the Meter (how it works and what it does), know the law, know the facts of how you are legal in future. Let them make the same mistake over and over again and do not tell them. And if it is thrown/dismissed KEEP THE TICKET IN CAR! or a safe place for future reference. DO NOT THROW IT! or let them keep it as some courts do, get a copy. Simple.

The METER tells them and you what % the METER see's. That is all and final in any court. Not hard to know the reason seemingly illegal tint is legal. At least with ALL meters I have seen and been used on me. By said cops like yours in MD and other states. Just like same is true in other ways for a Cop to be running speed traps and have a gun or stationary unit and then PACE you to verify. And the need for a operators licence is nice in court for the cop to have. And recerts on it. And as well as a active CALIBRATION LOG with a no more then it requires two day lag. Thou In court you can argue that and have due show of cause that THE GUN WAS NOT USED in two days in the field at all out side its case after that CAL date. A Cruiser mounted one is not good for them to argue this with. As that car has been out on road on patrol it is assumed till proven not. Subject to the elements weather units is in use or not. You think a unused mounted unit that drive thru a field in a chase is one you want tell you you were doing 60 in a 55? and $150 with court costs and 2 points? SC is a NO SPEED STATE so 56 in a 55 is ticket time and does get them. MANY OF THEM. As well 61 in a 60 and 71 in a 70 and 36 in a 35 and 27 in a 25.

Legal is 35. I had 5/20 and my whole windshield tinted, I'm obviously beyond spec. I'm not worried about it, I could have name dropped or pulled out my phone and shown him pictures of a bunch of his co-workers drinking at my house and talked my way out of it. He could have also given me a repair order and made me take it off. I knew I was in the wrong and he knew if he made me pull it off it would be redone the next day so I was fine with $60. I'm just saying that you never know when it could cause an issue. The day you get them tinted or 16 years later. After he gave me the ticket, I said 'so what pissed you off? You were behind me and about to pull me over then changed your mind. Then when she said she wanted coffee and I changed lanes, you pulled me over.' He replied 'Yeah, the tint was really bothering me, It's not safe for officers and when you gave me a second chance.' Then I yelled at the girl in the back seat and said 'See, you're f*cking coffee cost me $60' and he laughed.

Also, MD isn't wasting time on this stuff anymore, so court may have raised the fine. Also, the ticket was for the entire windshield being tinted, so he didn't need to know how dark it was, it was below the line.
