    auto lights sensor location

Driving a 2013 Kia Soul ! with the auto lights on (at darkness time). I'd like to know where the sensor is so I can make the computer think its dark or darker. I'd like the lights to come on at the beginning of dusk time but it seems they don't come on until it gets rather dark when most of the other cars on the highway have had their lights on for at least 15 minutes

I agree. They do come on later then they should. I will keep an eye on this thread and hope someone has some information.

    2013 Kia Soul !
Thanks. I tried covering it up, got out of the car and no lights on. Now that I think of it, the Soul has quite a long (10 or more seconds) delay until the computer realizes it's dark, maybe i looked too soon. Will cover the dome tomorrow when i go to work to see if it does the trick. With all the computer stuff, its amazing KIA didn't at least make the lights come on automatically when the window wipers are turned on, especially since it's the law in many states they must be turned on when the wipers are on.

if its not the law in every state why would a manufacture do that when they sell nation wide?

I don't think its that difficult to turn on two switches based on your own observation of conditions at the time rather than a machine trying to decide for you.

Hello Larry and welcome to the Soul forums I think the shading on mine may be a touch darker as the lights usually come on when it rains in UK. I have tinted rear windows and my sun roof shade is always closed Illegal to have screen or front side windows tinted in UK,. You would be wise to mount some coloured cellophane or UV sensitive lens over it to reduce light to the level you want. Photochromic sensors are generally slow working.

On our 2014 we leave the lights on all the time day and night. They turn off automatically a few seconds after the car is turned off. To us the extra safety of running with the lights on is worth the extra expense.
