How often do you get an oil change? 3000 miles? 5000 miles? more?

I have taken my gorgeous, amazing Kia Soul to a variety of different locations for oil changes. Once to the Kia dealer, where i purchased it. Once to Midas (where i was over-charged!), and once to a AAA garage, where they were super nice and cheap, and once to Wal-Mart where they turned me away ("we don't do oil changes on 2010 cars"!!!)
Anyways, i've heard so many different things from mechanics, so i'd like to know, HOW OFTEN SHOULD I CHANGE MY OIL?
3000 miles? 5000 miles? more?

Thanks Everyone!!

Kia says every 7500 miles as long as you don't drive under harsh conditions.

I go every 5000-6000 miles using full synthetic oil. I most likely could go longer but why chance it.

My father has a prius hybrid and he doesn't change his oil until he hits 10,000 miles since the last oil change.

Heads up, everyone: it is not at all difficult to qualify for what the owner's manual deems "extreme conditions." Check your OM's maintenance schedule for details. Things as innocuous as living where roads are salted, coastal areas, dusty areas, etc., even living close to work--frequent trips under 5 miles--will HALVE the intervals on the "standard" maintenance schedule. We have to get our Souls' underbody flushed ONCE PER WEEK to maintain the rust/perforation warranty. This is ludicrous. I'm expecting to read of lots of warranty service rejections down the road. Think KIA CS is going to believe "yes, I did the high-pressure underbody flush at home--every week, just like the book says..."?

wonder what Kia are gonna make of the underside of my car at the inspections coated in Cow pooh!....the stuff is absolutely bulletproof......i genuinely cant wash the stuff off, it dries like fluffy concrete. My car is either gonna last for ever and stink to high heaven or crack under the weight!.

I just had my first oil change at 1900 miles. My dealer includes 3 free oil changes with new car purchase. I plan on running the oil they used for 2500-3000 miles and then going to synthetic. I checked and they will put in what I supply.

After that I will most likely change oil twice a year, I only drive 8-10k a year. So probably will change every 5000 miles. I planned on going to Mobile One, but may consider Royal Purple.

What can you tell me about the Royal Purple, and what makes it worth the extra over Mobile One?

I have looked for a manual online (I think my wife took my manual inside and has misplaced it) anyway I live in Korea and have the Korean spec'd 2015 Soul with a 1.6L Automatic. I use Mobil1 Full Synthetic (about 4L) can anyone confirm if 7500 miles (about 10,000Km) is safe for a 1.6L? I know they are available as a base option state side. Thanks.

I take mine to the dealer where the car was purchased to have the oil changed, I think they use Prestone brand oil.
Last oil change was between 6000 and 7000 miles on oil.
Had been changing every 3K before that, got a bit lacks during the coldest part of the winter and my busiest time of work.
However last month (March) I somehow managed 2258 miles for the month, my normal driving is 359 miles a week just going and returning from work.

Manual shows every 3K under sever conditions or 75K normal condition, will ne going the 75K rout during the summer months.

wow, I hope you never go that far before an oil change, you've just specified 75,000 miles - your missing a decimal 7.5k. :sneakiness: Its 3750 or 6 months for severe not 3k.

I guess that things are more expensive in Mass. than here, where the average price of a Genuine Kia Oil Filter is about six bucks, with a FREE crush washer thrown in for good measure.
With a little experimentation, I've found that indeed a NEW crush washer should be used with each oil change.
It's nice that my dealer includes one with each filter.

There is a TSB (technical service bulletin) all about the differences between Kia filters and Off The Shelf, Brand X filters.
Here's a Genuine Kia Filter:

May you NEVER have any Oil related problems with your Kia Soul.

Cheers mates!

I look at it this way if Kia is willing to use these products and provide the 10 year 100,000 warranty using them I'll use it also not even Mobil 1 just the Super.
The OEM filter is only $6 and Oil on sale is not that much, in the end were talking a few buck here whats the big deal?
Use what you want and fill works best not everyone thinks the same, but if Kia is willing to back up the warranty and use these products I see no issue using them cost is not that much.
Photo take from my local dealers service dept. shelf so I know they use it.

By the way I always change oil between 3k and 5k. on all my cars, its not that much oil 4qts and a filter.
My 911 takes about 9-10 quarts and filter so the Kia's 4 quarts and a $6 filter is nothing LOL.
