And that is alot of what walks into dealer service depts too. And later find out the real facts of life. No dealer does a $10 oil change for the record. And yes you can go ANYWHERE to have your oil done. But come back to the dealer with documented as REQUIRED (filter/oil brand-weight) paperwork for $10 oil changes (your god given right) at or near mileage markers like this guy will and he and you will be told your new engine is between YOU and the FILTER/OIL COMPANY not us. You pay us now, they remeburse you later. ALL my cars that I drive day in and day out use Synth and have for years. The SOUL is not my every day driver it is someone elses. So just like the the 2003 Spectra LS with 89,000 (OIL SPECIALS $ at dealer, filter was pain on 1.8L) that it replaces so too will the SOUL get GOOD DINO 5w20 oil and a good KIA filter. My 2004 Sorento gets (I do my own too) only 5w20 Full SYNTH and KIA filter. And at 74,000 is showing no signs of anything to come bad. The only Difference now is or will be that the SOUL 2.0L is a breeze to get at filter. So Since it and my Sorento 3.5L take the SAME filter a KIA 26300-35503 one. I will now be doing it myself on the SOUL. Since I buy in bulk off internet and they (with a drain gasket) cost me $6.09. Dealer gets $10.50 ($9+$1.50). And since teh only other filter I would ever use is a WIX 51344 one. And they are @$6.56 why would I not use OEM KIA?

For the record the KIA dealer oil changes depending on time of year and discount coupons. Cost me $19.95-27.95 for the 2003 Spectra LS 1.8L. Jiffy lube wants $33 for DINO and a god knows filter in my area. And $60 for Synth with as well a god knows what filter. And the Sorento LX 3.5L costs me to do with 5qts 5w20 FULL Synth and OEM KIA filter depends on oil sales $24-28.

is there any website where they sell the oil filters for KIA Soul? Honda has a few sites where they sell maintenance parts (and OEM accessories) damn cheaper than the most dealer stores.

Otherwise it looks like I will need to go to pony up at the dealer, or switch to using Autozone/Kragen.

Thanks in advance for your info!

The OEM filter 26300-35503 I buy off the net IS a dealer in a few states of the USA right now you have three (good ones) to pick from and various (slightly diff) prices too. Yes a few dealers do understand what a "business plan" is. And "ALLOT of SOMETHING" is better then "ALL of NOTHING". And it cost me last week $5.75 EA shipped to my door without the washer for ten in a case. The others were more and 6 ($6.09 ea) or 5 ($7.05 ea) filters. The shipping eats into the price bad if you buy only 2 ($12.35 ea) hense why you buy 10 for $5.75 shipped. And I was in dealer Wed for the last of the "WE OWE" stuff form the sale in AUG and asked and the price of the OEM has gone up as of June 1st. It is now $11.05 with no washer and $1.25 for the washer. So that is now $12.30 in parts.

NOTE: since I was there and they had car to finish other work. And it had 2073 on it I had them do the first oil change. They as of now use Castrol DINO but did use Mobil DINO in past in my Spectra. Since I have seen here a GORILLA puts the filter on in KOREA. Did not verify that was not going try. They did it the first time and it was thier problem if so. Now it is on reasonably tight correctly by a real human and will be hopefully easy to get back off or not as bad the next time I do it @5000 (in @3000). And I had a dealership internet coupon for the oil change, and it was $24.95 or $28.30 out the door key in hand. Well worth not finding out it was a gorilla in my driveway.

NOTE 2: The coupon till June 1st was $19.95.

Your car your choice. Synth (many brands) or Dino (many brands). Filter has many arguments pro and con. As the commercial said "you can get with this or you can get with that". OEM is never wrong for a good price. OEM maker brand is 95% a good bet (WIX it was said). Most all others have risk in some way or other. NAPA has the least behind WIX as it is WIX made. Fram is Fram and has history some would ignore and others would seek to embellish for what ever reason.

So "you can get with this or you can get with that". It's your car. You want to pay too much for anything, that is your cross to bear. You want to be uber CHEAPSKATE that too is your cross to bear. In the end we all pay so it comes down to two ways.

    1)Payment plan
2)You like big and special (gee that's special) and sudden surprises.

    OEM 26300-35503=WIX 51334=NAPA 1334

Kia recommends standard oil because it's sufficient and within their specification for lubrication and wear.

What I meant by overkill is the amount of money you spend on full synthetic is not going to benefit you any more than regular oil or semi-synthetic if your OCI is 5K.

If your OCI is 10K and you have the proper filter to accommodate, then maybe it's worth the extra cash.

If you really want to learn about modern oil types, go to bobistheoilguy.com.
Modern oil is not like yesterdays oils that were used on V8's.
Oil technology has come a long way.
You are exactly right. bobistheoilguy.com is a great resource. The most important aspect of oil changes is the oil change interval, followed by weight, then followed by type (conventional, semi-syn, syn, etc.). I've run UOA's (not in the Soul, but on my Elantra which has the same engine) with conventional and synthetics, and different weights. There is virtually no difference WITH MY PARTICULAR TYPE OF DRIVING, which is easy. So it is pointless for me to use a synthetic, when a conventional can pull the same wear numbers. But that is me - others driving habits can make synthetic a more viable option. I just change the oil every 6 months, which for me is between 3500 and 5000 miles. Been looking good on the Elantra for 5 1/2 years now.

I'm posting here because we now have a 2011 Soul + in the family. My daughter just bought one a couple of weeks ago. Hope I get to see it and drive it soon (she lives 1000 miles away).

Good Luck to all you Soul owners, and change that oil on a schedule that makes sense for your driving style and habits, and still meets the manufacturer's requirements (for warranty purposes).

I use Mobil 1 Full Synthetic 5W20 on all 3 of my Kia vehicles. I also use WIX filters.
