    Gas Mileage?

    Hello All,

I've had my new Kia Soul 4u Automatic for a week now, and I'm put 1000 kms on it. Overall, I love the car but the gas mileage is so far not as advertised. I was told by the dealership that it takes sometime to work itself in, but I was wondering what everyone was getting on a tank. I've filled up 2 times now and I drive mostly highways. First tank it got 340 some kms and the second tank I got 320 kms. Both are far off the 43 miles per gallon they advertised. Anyone else get better or worse mileage?

    Thanks.

    Russell

    tallman,
I have only gone through one tank of gas on my Burner 2.0L but I was on 430km and still didnt have the gas light come on yet before I filled up. I would guess aroung 500km once it settles and only approx $40 to fill. I hate to say but your mileage sounds pretty low dude, you may want to check with the dealer.

How much gas to fill it after you drove?....It could be a gas gauge problem versus a gas mileage issue.....

Honestly, there are two things wrong with this. First, measuring "per tank" is awful as there's little standardization between what people view as a "tank" of fuel. Next, what size gallon are they using? Is this a UK gallon? How many litres are in it?

The US specs are 30 MPG highway (extra urban, I suppose) and I find this quite believable. I've already had around 27 MPG once, and I am at around 170 miles at half tank (again, this isn't good due to how much is in "reserve" when the gauge reads empty) with city driving. My mileage dropped on the highway due to severe winds and high speeds, but even then I got around 26 MPG at 75 MPH with 25+ MPH wind gusts. I think once it breaks in, I will get 32 MPG on the highway and 28 - 30 MPG around town, which is a little less than what my Honda Fit gets right now. So, that works out to around 6.7 to 8.2 L per 100 KM. I find that to be realistic.

Also, make sure to stick with the same gas station, fuel grade, and if possible the same pump so your fillups are consistent. In Canada, you guys have temp correction in your pumps, right? All the better. Otherwise I'd say try to fillup at around the same time of day and get consistent temps. Do you have a significant amount of Ethanol in your gas?

    Everyone,

Thank you very much for the replies. I answer some of your questions.

I realize that measuring per tank is an awful way measure. I did not write down the actual kms I drove either so I'm going by memory. Therefore, I will need to keep an eye on it and I'll keep you all informed. However, both times I filled up the fuel light was on. Both times I filled up, I put around 40 L's in. Next time I fill up, I will post actual km's driven, and total litres.

I drive a lot so gas mileage is a big deal for me, but because I drive a lot you all will not wait very long for an updated/accurate gas mileage posting.

    Peace.

Ditto on the trip meters, as I use Trip A each time I gas up. Also, be aware of your driving habits; my wife got my Fit down to 20.5 MPG in just 5 days of driving. She tends to floor it from stop signs and lights, while late braking for many other lane controls and intersections. If I'm not trying, I still get 28 MPG in the same car (I got nearly 33 with city driving when I did "try" to drive carefully). Shift early, and shift often to keep the engine at it's fat torque peak and you'll do well. The auto really favors being around 1500-2200 RPM, but I bet keeping a manual below 2800 RPM would get you most of the mileage you're looking for.

    Gas Mileage?

    Gas mileage results...

Last tank of gas: I drove 286.9 KM, and filled up 29.1 liters.

    Which equals 10.1 liters/100 kms or 23.3 miles/gallon.

I will continue to monitor this and I will try and drive "gas" friendly. More updates to come.

    Peace, Tallman

Far from the specs (for now)

    I have a 2u 2.0 liters automatic since february 27th.
Not pretty good on gaz, otherwise I like it...

    Here is my report

    City only: 12,7 L/100km 18.5 MPG (311.1km with 39.368 liters)
    City only: 14.34 L/100km 16.4 MPG (134.4km with 19.284 liters)
    Highway only: 8.95 L/100km 26.28 MPG (466.0km with 41.729 liters)
    Mostly Highway: 9.18 L/100km 25.62 MPG(30km city and 418.5 highway with 41.170 liters)

This is far from the specs:
    2,0 Liters, 4-speed automatic transmission: 8.5L/100 city/ 6.6L/100 highway (33/43MPG).
