Lack of a Spare Tire

Hello, I am the proud owner of the Kia Maria - 2013 Soul and I was wondering has anyone had to use the tire goo and air compressor to repair a tire while on the road. After using the goo do you have to replace the tire? I know I sound dumb but the instructions in the manual are a bit confusing to me. Thanks :think

When I got my 2013 Base Soul, it was a few days before I looked in the cargo area and was met with that Repair Kit. I didn't know whether to laugh or cry. Get a blowout or a big gash in a tire and that stuff is totally worthless. If you do use the GOO to fix a puncture, NO tire shop will touch that tire after that. You're left to buy a new tire. My own repair kit is mainly sitting in my storage shed, except for the little compressor, which I equipped with a standard air-chuck for re-airing a tire if I need to.

I bought these (3) parts at a local Grainger tool store. This little adapter, makes airing up a tire with the little compressor a lot easier. I've tried it out and it works great! I bought a tire and rim from my dealer, that is the same as the OEM tire/rim that's already on my car. I added a small floor jack and hand tools I already owned and used on my last car and I have a KIT I can rely on anytime and anyplace.

The 1/2" Torque Wrench and 21mm deep well socket, is my Lug Wrench.

Once you get rid of that Styrofoam stuff, the whole kit fits nicely in the wheel well. It all hides nicely under the stock cover.

I did have to modify the hold-down bolt, by adding a longer Bolt, to hold down the full size spare.
The longer bolt is metric, so I had to buy that at a local Fastener Store.

It's all very do'able, with just a few $'s and a lot of Yankee ingenuity.

Good Luck!

Not to jinx myself, but it's been over 20 years since I had to change a tire on the side of the road, and 15 since I've even run over something to get a flat (went flat in my driveway). Not something I would worry about unless you're traveling into the Outback.
