bicycle roof rack or hitch plus sunroof

Hey all... I just realized none of my bikes will fit in the back of my new beloved Soul...

I see the car of the year has a roof rack... want to say after doing the search that it is SSD branded?

Can I get that system on my 13 with a sunroof? usually its a big NO for roof rack systems with sunroofs.. but the Soul is cool so maybe?

or is it better to get a tow hitch and use a hitch system.. which I frankly hate.. seems like the hatch on our sorrento got beat up so I went with a "in car " solution for that vehicle... made it from Dallas to Moab Utah and back hauling 2 bikes, beer, luggage and song... plus the wifey....

yea yea I could use the sorrento but the Soul needs to get in the transport bikes and dogs game at my house.. Lol

    Thanks!!

I use a hitch rack for two bikes on my Soul. Works great, low and easy to load and unload. Roof racks would be a hassle - the Soul isn't exactly short at the roofline.

zippy... Our SSD Roof Rack systems work great with Soul's that have sunroofs. All of the components have been fitted successfully to the sunroof models so that's an option if you decide to go with the roof rack. I haul 2 mountain bikes on top of my own Soul and it's no big deal to load and unload them.

That guy says with the basket he can't flip up. But the cross rails appear easy to remove. I'd imagine he'll chime in, in 3,2,1...... Maybe not. But you could go to his post and ask.

The basket was installed with the cross bars running through the sides of the basket instead of underneath the basket for a lower profile look. I did the same thing myself with the same Rola basket. Looks fantastic but you can alway mount the basket on top of the cross bars instead. the sunroof has plenty of room to tilt under the cross bars.

That's me. The basket and the way I mounted is the issue. He won't have any problems with the cross bars and some bike carriers

You bet... the rally roof rails and cross bars are the foundation for most any accessories (bike racks, kayak racks, cargo boxes, safari baskets, etc, etc). Just need to make sure the accessories you buy will fit the cross bars. Thule and Yakima make a lot of stuff that only fits their own cross bars but MOST other companies make accessories that are more "universal" and will fit. It's easy to tell, just read the specs, they will list the maximum size cross bar they will fit. The wind fairing is optional but WILL quiet the cross bars when you don't have anything on them. If you remove the cross bars when you aren't using them (about a 5 minute job with no tools), you really don't even need the fairing.

Thanks. I personally think the fairing looks cool so that is just part of the package... for me anyway... time to work on the wife to sell her on the need... might take me awhile as we just sucked it up and bought the Soul 0-13 and she "let me" get a motorcycle last year again too... Lol
