Wow check your tire pressure when buying new!

I saw somewhere here probably on a sticky that the Soul ships with high tire pressures. My only complaint since now 800 miles new is it was a little jumpy when I hit rough spots in the road.

Checked my pressures just now ..... all four @ 50psi..... great for evenness not so much for ride and honestly probably safety.

I live in Florida and it is actually cold today. Those readings are @ 63 degrees not driven for 2 hours...

I dropped them to 34>>> which I might drop to the sticker on my door for my 18" wheels to 33...

And out of curiosity... what is "nitrofill".... if I want to add air I have to find a nitrogen fill station errr dealer?

Thanks Y'all... new guys have a lot of questions....

Nitrogen in automotive tires is a scam and a waste of money unless you drive on a race track all day. Also quite useful in aircraft tires where landing gear tires go from 0 to 125mph+ in a split second upon landing. That can build serious heat quickly. Just keep your tire properly inflated with plain old air and keep your nitrogen money in your pocket.

From someone with a little experience with small cars, the 50psi is 5# above the manufacturers MAX tire pressure. NOT GOOD!

I too had high psi's on my Soul when I got it home from the dealer. They were not only too high, but the pressures were all over the place, from 42 to 45 psi.
I've had experience with that 33psi recommendation and I can tell you "that's too low" for the average driver. On a cold winter morning with the tires set at 33psi, you can get the TPMS sensor light coming on, telling you the tire pressure is too low. 33 psi will also give you a soft squishy ride, but it will also make the car have a tendency to Wallow, on corners or in high cross wind.

For all around good performance and driving ability, try 38 psi. I found that 38 was a lot better than 33, but 42 was even better and still under the MAX pressure of 45 psi.
I too live in FL and find that 42psi on the Soul is excellent for this climate and road conditions.

    Good Luck!

I gotta add air to my tires. My tire pressure warning light has been on for a couple weeks now but I'm too lazy to fill them up. Every year when the cold sets in I gotta add more air to them. Most likely they are in the 28-30 psi range.

Aside from the TPMS light coming on, operating your car with low tire pressure causes extensive Flexing of the sidewalls,,,,, flexing causes heat and eventually can cause a side wall blowout.

Everyone, even little gramma's should have a tire pressure gauge and know how to use it. My mother never drove, but I'll bet she could use a tire pressure gauge!

Then you can buy a little air compressor at that Auto Parts store or Tool Store, for under $30. Just keep it in the trunk (cargo area) of the car, for if and when you need it.
I carry the one that came with my car. I also have a big compressor in my shop at home.

Tire pressure is as critical as having oil in the engine. Always maintain it properly.

It's a little less drastic on the side wall blowouts when you have low profile tires but yeah I do agree. But honestly your tires need to be in the 15 to 20 psi range to see any real danger.... or you need to be cutting corners at high speed.. something that I do not.

Yeah I just got my Soul yesterday, the tires were filled to 50 psi. I had to let some air out.

California requires an auto repair business to check tire pressure & correct it to whatever psi the tire manufacturer put on the tire wall. I suspect it has more to do with the CA EPA & CARB trying to get the best time mileage possible as well as a safety factor. Service shops (including dealers) must write the psi they found on the work order so the customer knows.
