I have been wanting to build a teardrop camper for my wife and I. It will be about 700lbs fully loaded. Can the soul handle this? i had seen tongue weight of 300 and max tow of 2000lbs.

The 2012 Kia Soul Owner's Manuel say (p. 5, 54) "We do not recommend using this vehicle for trailer towing". Even though a tear drop camper doesn't weigh all that much, by the time you pack all of your equipment in the car and in the tear drop, it will always weigh more. I have had two pop up campers and have pulled them with vans and a Toyota Rav 4. Please don't try to pull anything with your Soul. TPH
God I love this picture!
In England, the Kia Soul won acclaim for being the best tow car for small caravans (trailers).
One of the first things I added to my 2013 Soul, was the Curt Hitch. If I can hook up to it....I'll pull it.
I regularly pull my 800 pound road drag, to keep my road smooth. No, it doesn't have wheels....it's a real DRAG!
Braking is the only draw back. Leave plenty of space between you and the car ahead for braking. The little brakes
on the Soul were not intended to stop a heavy trailer. I wouldn't be afraid to pull a heavy camper, but I'd want to
have Electric Brakes on it, just to be safe.
Happy Motoring!
