At the risk of sounding stupid, the above statement was at the bottom of a post I received and where do I complete this operation?

that's me, you've already done it which is great, why are you asking? It's my signature line, so its not specifically for you when I reply.

It's a reminder to people who haven't done it. These things are important for us to answer questions easily and faster without having to keep asking people the same thing over and over again.
You wouldn't phone a garage and ask them a question and then not tell them any details on what your driving and expect them to give you the right answer.
Or in the case of location, this is a worldwide forum and our vehicles are not equipped the same in each country, so again if we don't know what country your located in we may not give you the wrong answer because where we are located its not equipped that way. Or we have to waste a lot of postings to try and get the answer so we can provide the right answer.

It's not directed at you specifically. That tag line is automatically posted at the bottom of every one of conwelpic's posts. Don't take it personally. It's easier to help answer questions if you don't have to drag pertinent information out of posters. Since you've already entered that info in your member profile, the request doesn't even apply to you.

We've fought that battle on almost every forum on the internet for as long as there have been forums.

People will jump on to get an answer to a problem and then not tell anything about the car, computer or whatever that's having the problem, and then the helpers have to play 20 Questions with the poster, to find out what the heck they are talking about.

I greatly approve of that signature line. It's one of those "Read and Heed" messages.

And yes, it's like a Billboard, for everyone, not any one person.
