    Oh yes, IT CAN TOW!

I know people are going to go nuts with all of their supposedly grand technical knowledge, owners manual quotations, and web site references, but I am here to tell you that the Soul can tow a sizable load and do just fine.

We towed this trailer 300 miles over the weekend and got 23.88 mpg, doing 65-70, with A/C on the entire time. I'm not 100% sure on the weight, but it should be right around 1500 pounds.

I never felt unsafe for a minute, including when the trailer blew a tire at 70 mph and I had to make a sudden lane change and stop. The Soul performed amazingly well. I couldn't even tell it was back there most of the time. We were on interstate highways in the midwest, so we certainly didn't go up (or down) any large mountains. However, once I get the Soul wired to use the trailer brakes, I won't hesitate to take it anywhere. I do think I will get a cold air intake and maybe an exhaust system to allow the Soul to operate at its max efficiency and I need some mirror extensions to see behind the trailer, but I will now have the coolest rig in any campground I go to!

Guess there is no point then in anyone expressing their concern. Happy and safe travels. Phillip

    Do as you please...
But I would recommend you get a transmission cooler installed and be sure you check your brakes regularly.

I will admit, it does look kind of funny.

The trans cooler is a good idea, I'm looking into that too. We do plan on keeping the Soul for a long time, so I'm against putting some money into it.

oh wow i don't even know where to start

im going to start with that has to be the most unsafe thing ever!!!!

it might tow it, but i doubt if someone were to pull out in front of you you would not be able to stop that thing 1500 pounds is like 3/4 the weight of the soul there is no way on earth i would ride in that contraption (and i regularly run into burning buildings and exceed 150mph so do with that what you will)

    remember the old saying

"use the right tool for the right job"

you my freind are using a pair of pliers to torque down a cylinder head

    just my 2 cents

Actually, the dealership told me the Soul can tow 1500 pounds without a problem and would actually be rated to tow that from Kia in the coming months. The title for the trailer says it weighs 1175, but I'm guessing it's a little heavier than that. As well, Souls are rated to tow well over 2,000 pounds in Europe. Do we really have a substantially inferior vehicle here in the states? I doubt it.

I don't plan on taking it out every weekend and I'm certainly not climbing mountains with it. Yes, I'm keeping a good distance open in front of me (as everybody should do when hauling, regardless of tow rig) and I will be taking extra good care of the Soul. I think it can handle the occasional trip.

    Totally unsafe without trailer brakes.

    But.....
    http://www.carkeys.co.uk/road_test/kia/16449.asp

Gives KIA figures for towing as 1300kg (with brakes). That's just shy of 2900lb!!! AND it would mean the trailer weighs the same as the car!!!

Now, that's with a diesel (and one can only drool at the 64mpg highway rating).

Anything under 1500lb should be fine.

    Also found this:

    http://www.nextcar.com.au/pl.kia.soul.09apr.html
The Kia Soul has the capacity to tow a braked trailer up to 1,100 kilogrammes (auto transmission) or 1,300 kg (manual).

The weight for an unbraked trailer, for the Kia Soul, is 450 kg (petrol engine models) or 550 kg (diesel engine models).
    450 kilos gives you 992lb.
