    13/16" Lug Nut Size

I found it odd that my 2012 Soul + requires a 13/16" socket for the lug nuts on the 16" wheels. I took one of the extra lug nuts shopping with me today (my Soul came with the wheel locking lug nut package) and discovered that the 13/16" socket was the perfect fit for it. I sorta expected this to be a metric size.

I also still haven't made up my mind if I'm going to leave the locking lug nuts on my car or not. I don't feel that wheel theft is a problem for me in my area or any of the areas I normally travel. Any thoughts on that?

if you already have them why not! I have them on mine as they came with the car, but I wouldn't remove them, these new fancy 18" machine alloys might be tempting even though the chances are slim it would ever happen, but it only takes once, its like insurance, you hope you never need it.

The lock nut is on the bottom

I rotated my tires yesterday, taking advantage of the 54 degree temps, and I was glad to see the 13/16 lug nut size. Nice move going to a standard size!

That's the reason I'm gathering the tools I need... tire rotations. Since I'll be changing my own oil the tire rotations every other change won't be a problem. I'm still looking for a deal I like on a floor jack and jack stands and I have a set of ramps already.

    The lugs are technically 21mm.

Which if you do the conversion, that's within less than 1/64 of an inch difference between 21mm and 13/16" But it's still strictly 21mm.

I honestly wish America would switch over to metric. The scientific and healthcare communities already use it. It's SO much easier to use... base 10, no memorizing conversions.
The American standard units are old and outdated, and imprecise.

i'll buy old and outdated and add clumsy - but, not imprecise -

for instance, in centigrade there are only 100 divisions between the boiling and freezing points of water - whereas there are many more divisions for the same measurement in our standard code making ours obviously MORE precise -

and heaven only knows how the precision axe falls when the measurement involves the temperature of lug nuts -

Touche, but they don't use centigrade in those mad scientist labs.... they use Kelvins.

and the freezing point of water is.... 32??? Who the hell came up with that?

I remember back in the 70s when the US made a push to switch to metric. One of the first things that happened that irritated the masses was fuel being sold by the liter rather than by the gallon. It didn't take anyone too long to figure out that the people selling gas were overcharging and taking advantage of the inability to convert liter to gallon prices that everyone was used to.

    JM!

I had the Locking Lug on mine when I bought it (Dealer Installed Option..... don't ya know.....). I had other plans in mind, and opted to remove all of the Lugs, including the Locking Lugs, and replace them with Black Spline Locking Lugs. They look like regular Acorn Nuts, but require a Special Tool to remove them. For me, I like the look better, and I also have Security on my Wheels.

    Cheers!
