Honestly, I can't think of a single car being sold today that you shouldn't expect to get 100k miles out of. We expect so much nowadays, but sometimes it's good to reflect on the garbage we were sold in the 80's. Today's cars, even my $13k stripper model, are going to be more reliable than the best car of the 80's.

Further, the question is kind of a loaded question. How many miles can we expect out of the cars? Well, with enough money and wrenching, we can expect them to run until rust renders it a pile of dust.

nowadays rust dosent seem to be the "end of life" problem. What stops a car is when the electrics play up and the thing isnt worth fixing.

People complain that they cant work on their cars anymore these days. The fact is that cars rarely go wrong so you dont have to work on them. In the old days a car needed working on every few thousand miles to keep it reliable and stop the various joints and stuff wearing out..... do people really want a return to this?.... skinned knuckes and using frozen spanners whilst laying in a puddle of driving rain on a sunday morning has lost its appeal to me somewhat.

Cousin has the van (unsure of the model) been going strong since 2003. Guess it's 10 years now, since the 2013 is out. Had some minor problems, but all in all engine is fine, interior (they have 3 kids, and a set of monster twins), not so much.

I think my soul is over the 55,000 mile mark now. Still going strong.

I would hope it lasts at least to 100k since that's what the powertrain warranty covers.

A little anecdotal info, , , back in the day, when I was still gainfully employed, I ran my personal cars about 30k to 40k (miles) per year.
That was always Detroit Iron, with high performance and low gas mileage. But being retired and on limited income, I now need a car that I can get into for under $400 per month (payments) and 30+ MPG, when I drive sensibly.

I just traded off my fifth Suzuki, after 12 years of driving nothing but Zukes. They are great little cars, but somewhat ho-hum in the Joy of Driving dept.
Engineering left a lot to be desired in the DIY maintenance department. Just changing the oil filter was a pure nightmare. It was difficult on the 2009 SX4, but almost impossible on the 2010+ cars.

I love the little 2013 Soul, for its simplicity (under the hood) and ease of maintenance. My dealer is taking care of all the maintenance for the first year, but when they stop, next Sept, it will be a pure joy to do my own Oil Changes.

At 4650 miles, my Soul is just starting to loosen up and RUN! It just gets betterer and betterer!!!
No rattles and no squeaks, just lots of SCAT, like a turpentined cat.

Oh, by the way, I see other Souls everywhere I go. The most commonly seen one is the Clear White. They're EVERYWHERE!
Recently, at the grocery store, I tried to get into two other white Souls, before I finally found mine.

    Happy 2013 y'all !!!

Happy New Year to you, too!

With all those white Souls running around in your neck of the woods, you might want to give yours rallye stripes just to set it apart from the herd.

Haha, clear white owner here as well, but I haven't had any problems distinguishing yet. I see all sorts of colors around here, most often Moss, Titanium, Molten, and Silver

ya know what is so funny about this original really... old thread... My wife and I had an original Sephia... piece oh crap.. BUT Kia stood behind it for 4 transmissions under warranty.
We traded in for a first generation 29k$ Sorento and still have it 100,000+

answer is yes and no... Lol.... you might get a bad apple but honestly if you treat a car right with maint. etc. there is no reason not to get 100K and then some.

Kia stands behind their stuff and now I just traded my Ford truck in on a 2013 Soul... I believe

A friend had an orange Hyundai Excel--was there a KIA twin in the 90s?--which she loved, had many miles on and had no problems with.

Spectra was simply renamed Forte. There are reviews and there are reviews. It's best to lay hands on anything, because professional road test drivers often have different priorities than real people.

I had a 2007 Spectra and now have a 2013 Soul. D-I-L had a Rondo which got totalled, now has 2008 Sorento with 55,000 on it. Trans went out a few months back. It cost her one bridge toll for a replacement trannie.
