Reminds me of portable GPS units I was into way back. They were running Windows CE and you could interrupt the start up and boot it directly into Windows. From there you could use basic windows tools, play videos, then open stock GPS software or install your own. Kind of neat, but cellphones killed all the fun. I might still have the tools on my laptop somewhere.

Mine doesn't say that or look exactly like that. Further I am pretty sure mine is not Microsoft but is Android. At least that's what I remember, it changed maybe with the 2014 model year.

The newer larger ones are not powered by Microsoft. it is possible to modify but not with ease, atm you would need to spoof a md5 hash to load custom firmware. Not really any big players interested in find a exploit in the software so probably not gonna happen. They run mit processors. < android runs on a arm

Hey I notice you have a USB drive plugged in... I have read that they over heat and don't play music correctly. Have you noticed any issues? What model/size is your drive?

The programming is done in (Linux) which is well documented in the (u-boot.bin) file found on the on the Navi update card. I think this is the right part # 140428 8S61. There is a boot image on the SD used as a ramdisk to gain access to the system. There is a wealth of knowledge documented in hex format in the .bin file such as Processor, video specs, ram specs, order of commands, ext. At one time I was going to get into the programming as the system will play video fairly well, if the video from the rear camera is good enough for you. I am just not that well versed in Linux and I am too old and hownry to learn it well enough. I would be content to program one of the buttons to turn on the rear camera without placing the gearshift in reverse.

So there is your "in" to hack the system. But please share your progress with all.
