    2014 Kia Forte Revealed

Over the weekend, Kia teased the world through a livestream of its 2014 Forte model trapped inside a box at a South Korean mall. The Korean automaker finally dropped the box, fully revealing its newly redesigned compact sedan.

Known as the K3 in Korea, the compact sedan will make it to America as the 2014 Kia Forte, but will also be known as the Cerato in other international markets. It will be heading to American dealerships early next year as a 2014 model, and we can expect coupe and hatchback variants to be in tow.

Unfortunately not very many details on the updated model was released. Kia simply said that the 2014 Forte is "longer, lower, and wider than the current car, with an extended wheelbase, the next generation Forte / Cerato will be manufactured with an all-new bodyshell structure."

Likely to get the same 1.8-liter currently used in the Hyundai Elantra, look for highway fuel economy to exceed the 40 mpg mark. And with the introduction of start-stop technology on the 2013 Rio, it's foreseeable that the same system could be carried over into the new Forte.

We still expect the automaker to reveal the 2014 Forte at this year's Los Angeles Auto Show. Watch a video of the compact sedan revealed in the Korean mall below.

Looks good. I just bought my son a 2012 Forte SX. Looks better (or at least as good) than a BMW 3 or 5 series in my opinion.

Meh! Another boring sedan. I'm sure the Koup will look way better.

Looks better than the recent-model Hyundai Elantra as far as I can tell, but it tends to confirm my decision that I'd rather have a Soul than a Forte. I don't want a long, low, swoopy, trendy-looking car; I want one that's big inside but small outside, preferably with distinctive, "far from the madding crowd" looks that won't readily go out of style. The only thing that gives me pause is the claim of more than 40 mpg on the highway. Aside from some trifling aerodynamic difficulties, why can't the Soul do almost that well too?

If you are referring to my comment about the fact the Forte is the best selling KIA model in Canada, then the answer is simple - the US took 25% of Canada's Soul production to try to meet the increased demand in the US.
