I want to go over my Soul and dealership.I'm going be as straight up as I can be.I won't name the dealer, because we have an on going issue with them, and I won't start bad mouthing a dealer, unless I feel that we can't come to a fair settlement.
I started out loving this car. It's turning out to be worse than a first generation Rio.
The first problem we had was our roof racks being installed improperly causing the roof to vibrate and the racks to howl like a pack of wolves. Two weeks after we picked up our brand new Soul, at the end of September 2015,one side of our factory Spoiler came loose. It turns out that whom ever installed it, over tightened the nuts, nearly breaking the threaded studs off the spolier. After a few hundred miles, they did break, and the double sided tape wasn't holding well. One side came off.First trip to the dealer, and they couldn't repair it.They had us take the car to another dealer's (not a Kia dealer) body shop. They couldn't repair the car,but they did call my original dealer, and ordered the part.Because they couldn't reinstall the original spoiler,I had two big holes in the top of my rear hatch. We were having serious rain and floods, with no where under cover for the car to be parked. It took three days to get the spoiler plus the weekend, five days total, with the car being in the rain.It is our only car.We got the Soul, because a young girl texting and driving, hit my wife in our truck and totaled it.After making it through that ordeal, and having the rear of the Soul flooded a few days,we had more problems after the first of the year.At just over 5000miles,the car would hang in third and fourth gear,oh yeah,it's an automatic. On top of that, the car would cut back and hesitate, especially when pulling off from a stop.It was like turbo lag on older turbo cars, but the Soul doesn't have a turbo. The car would barely move, then all sudden,it would take off like a bat outta hell, without warning. All of this is still happening to this very day. After a few trips to the dealer,we were told, "It's just a quirk that the Soul has."I got fed up with them, but accepted this BS excuse. Not long after that, the Speaker lights started going crazy. They would flash on and off,and just generally seem possessed, when they were switched off.Along with that, the factory add on under dash LEDs started acting up as well. They come on whenever the hell they feel like it,won't switch off,and the switch usually won't control them. These issues have never been resolved either. They say they can't duplicate the problem, therefore the problem doesn't exist. They kept the car for a full day on two separate occasions, and even had a tech ride around with me for a couple hours.During that time,I proved all the light problems to him, plus the transmission and engine problems. Then I found out he's not a certified tech. He's a shop helper.Basically a shop gopher with no automotive education at all.So this brings us to last week. Our interior lights started shorting out,the ones between the visors, above the rear view mirror.I exploded on the desk jockey, that's been dealing with us,over this car.I unloaded on him about every defect we have brought to their attention.I made him show me where everything that we brought the car in for was documented in Kia's system.I want to have proof we have tried to get this car fixed under warranty, and before it really has problems.Oh,they did order a whole new interior light for our car. They nearly destroyed the headliner getting the bad unit out. They have no plans to repair the headliner. It's not a warranty issue.I finally throw in the towel. We can't afford to take this car over an hour away,to the next closest dealer, and leave it for them to try and evaluate all the problems. This is our only car.Our Kia dealer refuses to give us a loaner, and keep the car until it's repaired, but they will take us anywhere we want,as long as it's not over six miles.Yes,my main problem is with our dealer, but this car was purchased brand f**king new.It should not constantly keep having problems. The car has 19,300 miles on it now.I screwed up big time when I refused the 100,000 mile warranty, because it added over a $100 a month to our payment. We're strapped for money, because I am disabled.
While I am hating this car, almost as much as a Ford,my wife still loves this bastard child like she gave birth to the damn thing.Let this be a cautionary tale about warranties.I know this car is going down hard at 60,001 miles, when the warranty runs out.
I also hate this car for many other reasons, but the dealer can't help them. It's not like they can let me take a week long trip, before I bought it, to make sure the ergonomics fits my oddly shaped body.I'm just stuck now.
Oh,and before anyone brings up the subject of fuels and additives. We use top tier gasoline, in 87 octane, as specified by our owner's manual. The dealer makes sure we put the fuel additive in every 3000 miles when they change the oil.None of this makes any difference to the performance of the engine and transmission.
