After several unreturned yet promised phone calls from the dealer, I just got her back from the dealer for:
1. accelerator pedal recall: complete
2. airbag recall: complete
3. transmission hesitation reflash/upgrade: incomplete/unavailable
4. "foamy snake" waving from the engine compartment: "no repair as it won't affect car performance or reliability"
5. drivers-side wind noise: new whole-door seal ordered; dealer thinks they've isolated the problem to the mirror area and will replace the seal (parts on order) - always make me wonder why dealers don't simply take needed parts from a "donor" lot new vehicle (I mean, isn't that essentially the same thing PLUS it saves the dealer and the customer time and hassle of additional return trips!!!???).

For some items I would agree but for basic ones like a weather seal, hood panel, battery, etc., it's easy and efficient for all parties involved. Dealers could maintain one "donor vehicle" on every lot!!! I like it.

I've been asked that question by customers before. Mainly on back ordered parts. I tell them the same thing each time. I'm not going to disable a Brand new car for your part. If you want to ask the owner that question, be my guest.....
I've personally seen it done and it does make sense in many respects. "Borrow" a part while ordering a replacement; install donated part and reinstall onto the donor vehicle when the new part arrives. I do realize some larger, more involved items would be difficult/unlikely to borrow, but does make me wonder what the most "involved" part borrowed was...
Greg
It all really depends of how long the replacement part takes to get in. If the part is on back order and the new car might be down a month, that would be a diff story.....
If the part is just going to take a day or 2, then yes, we do that kind of stuff most dealers would depending on the case. And the customer.
Usually we would only do it on back ordered parts that would be coming from Germany. Most of our clients were snooty rich people from Palm Beach that have probably spent millions on cars from us. I know we had to use a new car donor for Trump's SLR McLaren ?
Got our car back and didn't notice anything different, so I asked my SA what was changed out; they changed the lower/inner window channel/seal. Not clear to me why that was done instead of the actual door seals b/c I told them I taped off every available seam (window, windshield, mirror), leaving only the door compressions seals as the only remaining culprits. As I'm driving home, I glance at the newly replaced seal and think...something looks odd. I get home and compare it to the original/untouched one on the passenger side. It becomes obvious the tech did not install it correctly, so I drove back to the dealer to point out their error. They take the car back, re-repair it and off I go again. One reason I hate dealer service: the need to quality-assurance-inspect repairs just made. My favorite one was having the oil fill cap not replaced after an oil change.

It's sad Grege that this dealer cannot get a handle on repairs, customer service & quality control. It usually starts from the top down (shat flows downhill) & clearly there is one or more incompetent persons running this dealership.
Sorry to hear about the problems you have gone through.
