Do the headlights stay on when the fog/driving lights are switched on?
Guy showing us a new one didn't have a clue.
They seem to come standard now for 2016 on the plus.

Too rainy to be going in/out of vehicle today.
Couldn't really tell from inside as it was still fairly light out.
Reason I asked was because I like the idea of using the fog/driving lights instead of headlights for driving if they will throw sufficient light to illuminate road safely.
Could tint the headlights...just a thought.

I think, technically...these are driving lights (clear lens) rather than fog lights (yellow lens)
My old 300zx has driving lights on the lower front facia.
They provide a noticeable amount of added light, enough so that they appear to be capable of lighting up the road nicely.

Kia calls them fog lights. Page 4-91 of my owners manual says, "Fog lights are used to provide improved visibility when visibility is poor due to fog, rain, or snow, etc. The fog lights will turn on when the fog light switch is turned to the on position after the headlight is turned on. When in operation, the fog lights consume large amounts of vehicle electrical power. Only use the fog lights when visibility is poor."

I wanted to use them for daytime running lights but unfortunately they will only come on if the head lights are on so I rarely use them as I seldom drive at night.

My last four cars (and my soul) had fog lights. All require the headlights to be on in order for the fog lights to operate. I suspect this is either required by law or the lawyers tell the car companies to do this for fear of people driving at night with only the fog lights, hitting something or someone and suing the car company.

Check out the fog light operation when the car is set on Manual lights not auto.
It is normal for cars not to be able to use fog lights unless head lights are on but with my car (end of gen 1 special). the DRL are on but Fogs will not work.
Turn manual light switch one position front and rear parking lights come on .( some idiots drive on these at night to save their batteries.) turn switch again head lamps come on Dipped one pair main beam 2 pairs.
As long as My lights are on Manual I can select front and rear fogs as long as light switch in first position.
I know the Laws are the same as yours for driving. but when extra reversing lights, or in pea souper when head lights bounce back and obscure vision the Low fog lights do their job and show you the way.
This I believe to be the way lights should work and if you break law it is your responsibility not car manufacturers.
When on Auto the law will be maintained.

Here in the good old USA, the trial lawyers have pretty much abolished personal responsibility. If someone figures out how to run only fogs a night and had an accident, then the lawyers go after the deep pockets and would argue that Kia should have known better and not allowed such operation. The lawyers would win that case everytime. In the US, we are all victims...
