Ugliest thing Kia told me lately!

My cars were purchased a month and a half maybe (?) ago. One of my contract items was the spare tires and kits.

I still dont have them. The Sales mgr cant get them. The General Mgr cant get them.

Parts said they are back ordered. Waay back ordered and only one company makes them for Kia. A small company. And they are hopelessly backed up.

Boo Hiss. Kinda sounds like everyone wants spares in their cars. Kia should notice this I hope!

It also seems like an opportunity for a new company to excel and take away the business from this other company. Always backordered means you are not taking care of your customers nor making the income you could make.

Wears me out anyhow. The Parts guy told me that the spray goo in the inflater would not hurt the wheel or tire. 180* from what others here have said. And of course the inflater is a one time thing.
Use it once and you still need a spare!

These guys have them. If they have to pay more to get them then that is on them as you already were promised a kit when you purchased the car.

Amazon.com: Factory Kia Soul Spare Tire Kit (for vehicles with 16" wheels): Automotive
Like Mark says, these full spare tire kits are available, in good supply, all over. I purchased mine after about a year of ownership just to have peace of mind of a real spare.

This holdup is a bureaucratic failing. If customer service was truly job one Sheep, they could get a spare kit for you tomorrow. All the manager has to do is click the link & call you when it's delivered. But that won't happen because of a few bucks & a policy that may or may not exist that says he can't (but seriously, a dealer can probably buy you a gold watch if they want to).

I hope it's worth it to them to treat you this way.

Ooh. I am going to show this link to the dealer parts guy. I dont know that it will make any difference to them tho. It also does not say they have them in stock. It says "usually". Again I was told only one company in the USA has a contract to make or sell these. So they might be from the same company IF they are in stock.

Hi again the initial contract you signed for the car must have the Items stated as paid for or included extras.
If only verbally promised to you by dealer then you are a subject to one of the dodgy dealers con tricks, and they are just stalling for time hoping you go away.
If it is on your contract to include spare tyre Kit Get onto Kia Customer services for your area and complain to them strongly.
Buying from main dealers approved cars I expected them to honour, With Hyundai and Kia garages although my used sold with services both cars only had oil drained and refilled and service books signed as serviced. Having warranty on Hyundai and getting trouble within days took to nearest garage and they charged me for work and a new filter for fuel. I had to claim money back from supplier but was not impressed with their excuses. My present car also seems to have gone through same signing process by filter conditions.
Not kia fault but the customer services seem over sympathetic to dirty tricks of motor trade in UK .
The second\Hyundai dealer. I used did a receipt stating the original filter was still on car not supplied as replacement out of date on miles and age at last service. Needless to say I stayed with them as they appeared to do an honest service.
So not all dealers bad but a lot of dodgy sales practises.

Years ago when Yaris firs released in UK Toyota did the correct thing they watched the garages like naughty scool boys and sent out questionnaires to customers and phoned checking.
The service when watched was first class but soon slipped when monitoring lapsed.
Sorry about Rant I love Kia and Hyundai just hate the rip off garages and sales.

This Kia dealer has been up front and honest so far. I checked myself and found that other dealers were having the same problem with backorders on this item. I tend to trust a dlr until I have reason not to. Yes it was verbal but it could also be verbal for me to plaster all over the various social media sites about this and cause sales problems. I still think this is just a supply problem but will send the link on the oemkiastore to the Gen mgr Jim O'Neil. I will see what they have to say. Month and a half does seem a bit much.

OP there are 6 Kia parts warehouses in the USA 5 of them have PLENTY spare tire kits you need. Call and ask for the parts manager. Ask him one question, is it on a E order? If not, it should be......
There should be no reason they can't get it already..

It really does come down to what was part of the contract and/or did they give a "We Owe" paper.
In most circumstances a "We Owe" paper is considered part of the Contract even if not specifically referenced in the contract.
If they owe it to you see if they will give you the money to buy elsewhere, but they may not be obligated to. It could be they are simply obligated to get it to you from their authorized point and nowhere else. If there is no documentation that they are supposed to be getting it for you, you may want to simply buy it yourself and be done with it.

They were shipped yesterday from LA. I live in FL. The dlr said they get parts orders in on Tuesdays. I assume that means they will be in on tuesday. Then they said they have to assemble the tire and fill it. Then they would let me know. I will give them until wednesday then check on them again.

I was a bit shocked there was no donut spare in my new 2015 Soul, but when I saw the price of that donut spare kit I decided I will just buy a cheap full size wheel, tire and jack - it will be LESS money that the donut kit and I will cram it in the back somehow! Hate running on these West Virginia back roads without a spare.

Yea I didnt want to not have a spare either. Both of my tires and kits were free with my Souls. I just said " Buying two cars I should get a door prize yes?" Then I told them what I would like.

I got the small spare tire with the full kit. Fits perfect & the jack tools are recessed into styro foam. The under floor storage is one of the nicest features for me and I wouldn't give that space up for a big 'ol spare tire I'll probably never use. No way, no how, nu uh! :)

I got my '15 KIA Soul on Feb. 26 earlier this year. Since then, I've picked up three nails. The first one I detected before my first oil change and the dealer took care of it.
The last two came about one right after the other. For a few years now, I've carried an air compressor that plugs into the power outlet. I've also carried plug repair kits with me. So, these last two, I took care of myself.

As for the spare tire kits: I was told they do NOT come with the car any longer. So, was I told wrong or should there be a kit? I do not have any at all and, for what it's worth, haven't actually missed it. BUT, that one time you need it and don't have it can be really rough!

Lewis, no longer does the Kia Soul come with a spare tire or tire tools. You have to add the afterwards because the company wants better mpg numbers for the government. The govt gave stds to Kia and to meet them they took out the tires to reduce weight. A lot of car companies are doing this now. They blame the govt EPA for mandating mpg stds that are not possible at the car prices we demand.

I have the tires and kits in both of my 15's now. I feel better and still hope I wont need them. The spray goo and air pump seems a stupid compromise to me.

Hey Lewis, I think you were told correctly that they "do not" come with real spare tires anymore. It's something you have to do yourself.

I totally agree with you. It's nice to have the real spare for that "one time" you really need it. I consider it more peace-of-mind in the shape of a big rubbery donut under the floorboards.

:fat:My local Kia dealer has now added the spare donut/jack to every Soul on the lot. The cost is added to the invoice price. My Soul was brought in from another out of state dealer. It did not have the spare included. I guess, living out here in the hinterland most local customers freaked at having no spare tire. Anyway, they installed mine on delivery.
The pump kit is really low balling the deal. Actually, no CD player is also cheap. Don't need my cassette player anymore. That's good!:fat:

thats a neat dlr to add to every car. And a CD player? Makes the same sense as a reel to reel player these days! Buy a thumb memory drive and just add music to it. Then plug it in and you are done. or buy the SiriusXM like I did and never work getting music again!

#29 · (Edited)
Yes, there is no CD player (not news). And yes, the little Thumb Drives for online music downloads works fine. Having some issues viewing all the music titles on the UVO system. Opening the Root Folder and scrolling the Music List does not show every listing. Think I need a 10 year old to help. The Spare Tire added by the local dealer seems a good move, but it's not free!:sneakiness:

Yea I get you. I got mine free because I asked. And I had some clout buying two cars at once. (and it was slow that week I guess) My dlr is definitely 5 stars with me. I have talked to my gen Mgr several times and he is always open to take my calls.

Im happy so far. I feel safer having a spare for the wife and for me. If she has a flat anyone can help her. The other way it needs a tow truck which spoils your day.
