Homelink Mirror - Garage Door Programming

Has anyone successfully programmed their garage door opener on the Homelink mirror? I have tried both methods. First cleared the memory, then held the transmitter close to the mirror and pressed both buttons simultaneously. Didnt program. And tried hitting the "smart button" on the opener then pressing the button on my mirror. Didnt work either. Any idea what I am doing wrong? It should work because I had a Dodge Nitro once programmed to this very opener.

I know some obscure brands of garage door openers won't work. What brand do you have?

I have to ask the stupid question here.... Are you reading and following your manual or just winging it?

I had the issue, but was able to resolve it. My problem was with the remote itself. You MUST have a remote that can switch from 315 to 390...is it MHz, I think?

What brand of opener do you have? Is it a Genie? Is your remote sort of an hourglass shape? That's what I have. I called Genie and they sent me a remote that would switch from the standard 315 for door opening to 390 for programming. The button on the door opener itself is only for the rolling code if applicable.

I had some frustrations with mine as well, but with the new remote, was able to program it. Shoot me a PM with your phone number if you want and I'll talk to you about it. I now have all three buttons programmed for three openers. But yeah...at first...I was VERY frustrated.

Garage master. And I am open to you telling me the page number where the manual explains it. Looked everywhere, thats why I came here for help. I have noticed that this is your general reply to everything. If you dont want to help anyone, then simply dont reply to their post.

I feel that I may have touched a nerve here. When I say that I'm asking a stupid question, I mean that I realize that it's very obvious, but it's usually the simple things that people overlook. I'm in no way inferring that YOU are stupid. Maybe I should have worded it differently. When people ask why their car won't start, I ask the simple stupid questions first such as: is there gas in the car? and so on.

Something that you will find out about these awesome forums is that we all have a sense of camaraderie, and in no way intend to demean or ridicule anybody. So if I've offended you, I apologize.

Most people access this site for information and it is our job to point them to a resource such as their manual. As for my reply's, to my knowledge, in the past several weeks, this is only the second time I've asked if they've checked their manual. Let's face it, most information related to these types of questions are in the manual.

Like most other people I fail to read the instructions before fiddling with anything and I just wing it. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. My car does not have the homelink feature, so I don't know if the instructions were in the manual, you've expressed that they are not. Again, I'm not trying to imply that you are stupid, I'm just making sure all the bases are covered before chasing down an overly complicated solution.

Sorry for the confusion, I hope this clears things up, and enjoy our little community.
    Kyle.

P.S. For what it's worth, HomeLink is a widely used system that is in lots of cars, like your dodge. I found this video on youtube, hope it helps.

Instructions worked! Thanks! Apparently you have to program the remote to the mirror, then program the mirror to the opener. The way I read it from googling was to do either or and one of the two would work.
