Thread: Doors locked can't get out

Remove key from ignition
press lock on key fob
you will find you can not open any of the doors from the inside

Example:
Emergency situation, car on fire, it is dark, you stop, teenager in the back holding baby: you exit, close front door, hit the lock button instead of the unlock button, then drop the key fob while fumbling for the unlock button...

teenager & baby will be barbecued unless you can find the keys....the teenager can't open the door

Is there anyway we can disable this 'car feature'???

The front doors should unlock when opened from the inside. The rear doors will not. This is a child safety feature. Your "what if" is about as likely as a sumo wrestler bouncing the back door open and killing everyone inside. If your car is on fire, why is there a teenager and a baby in the back? Why is the baby not in a car seat? Why would you press unlock on the FOB instead of the door panel? Who was driving the car? Do the doors lock automatically while you are driving? If the teenager is holding the baby while you are driving, the baby is about 1000000x more likely to die in a car crash than the freak scenario you came up with. Try opening the front door when they are locked. They will open. They are designed to, anyway.

I would just flip the manual lock on the door to the unlock position and open the door

Why is the teenager unable to pull up on the lock release itself from the inside?

We have a winner

You know a couple of people died in a car wreck involving passengers in the back of a pickup truck. It didn't have a cover on the back, but they couldn't get out because they couldn't open the tailgate.

I enjoyed this thread thoroughly.
