The Classic "Flip key broke" in a 2011 Kia Soul

First off, the names Mark. Hey everyone. First time posting, and this is the first real problem I've had with the Kia. About a year ago my girlfriend bought a 2011 Kia Soul at a used car dealer. Love the vehicle so far. However, yesterday I'm turning the ignition...and *pop* the key blade pops out. Big problem, so I think. The slot the blade was in is, obviously, still there. I can kind of wedge it back in and use it to turn the ignition on, but that's it. Also, and I don't know if this is related...but the actual case for the key stopped unlocking and locking my car.

My question is, since it still works...could I just solder it back in place and be fine, or would that potentially cause a bigger problem? Any tips or info would be appreciated guys, and thanks again!

There should be a small hole in the base of the key and another in the slot that it fits into on the remote. A small expansion pin goes in there to lock them together. If the remote isn't working, the battery in it may need replacing.

Do you think that solder would be able to do the trick, or do you have to have that pin?

Also, if it's not under warranty, what would be the best (see also: cheapest lol) way to replace it?

I'd try silver solder as it's a bit stronger than regular solder. Cheapest way to replace is to search ebay for Kia Soul keys and remotes. Not really sure if that would be warranted or not. All you could do is contact the nearest Kia dealer ans ask. The worst that could happen is that they would say no.

Use a large size paper clip. Put a bend in it so it fits tight. Trim it flush and put a drop of crazy glue on both ends. Or you could just find the right size expansion pin.

Well it appears, the part that holds the pin (on the actual remote, not the blade) has broken. I may either just have to buy a new one, but i'd like to try and solder it first

You could have a new key made and continue to use the remote separately.

Kia sells a pin. Or you can get a 15.00 reg headed key and still use your remote and have the reg key on the key chain. Easy fix either way.

I would just go to KIA and pretend like I KNOW it's part of the warranty. Like there is no question that it's a warranty issue. Worth a shot.

Gotta go a bit easier on turning the key. It's just a glorified switch, you know. You're not actually trying to spin the engine with the key. Anyway, like I said before, ebay if you need a new remote.
