My 2012 Soul + has no spare tire, tire iron or jack. It came with a small portable air compressor and tire sealant. That would be ok for a puncture but not if you had a blow out. What does everyone else have?
the older souls have the donut and jack, and lots of 2012 owners are buying that setup for their car, and some are even going to a full sized spare...... but quite how that fits in with the underfloor cargo cubby - i dont know.
Do a search - lots of comments and threads already on getting them.
I read an article that 15 and 16 inch donuts fit fine but a full size spare won't make it into the cubby. I could be wrong, but that is what the article said. I have looked at the hole in the base and it looks like it would have a hard time with a full size spare. Now we have to find someone to build and market a tire rack to hang off the tail gate to accomodate the spare. Neat, huh?
worry about that when required, only ever used a compact spare once in all the years I've been driving (when they became a standard feature), not sure how long now but I'm guessing 20-25 years. At one time, the full size spare was always used as part of your tire rotation.
FYI, Full size spare 205/55R16 fits in the well. You're gonna have to do something about adding support to the rear deck as it will no longer be supported by the cargo box & flat tire repair kit.
I know that I was surprised when I found out that there was no spare. The dealer was somewhat frustrated with the situation also because they had no spares or jacks to sell with them. They also had no info because KIA does not provide an OEM replacement for them.
It is a cost cutting measure I am sure but come on, I am not even a car and I come with a spare tire.
I know that in the 40+ years of driving I only had to change one tire and that was a blow out. Tire sealant wouldn't have helped. More than anything, it would be piece of mind to have that spare back there but as said I sure it's a cost cutting measure. You just don't know where that pothole is that will blow your tire.
It's not really a cost cutting thing since it is still offered. It's like saying not including a sunroof is a cost cutting measure. Not having the sunroof lowers the price of the car several hundred dollars. Same thing with the spare, it lowers the price by 200 dollars. Both can be ordered with the car if you feel the need is there.
Honestly, in my 24 yrs of driving, I have only used a spare tire once... it was way back in the day on my 88 F-150 when we were raising hell and I ran something over in this guys yard. Nowadays... the biggest concern I would have would simply be having a jack itself, which I do have in the form of a hydraulic floor jack.

My dealer told me they were doing it to save weight which equals better gas mileage. The dealer I bought mine from also offered to swap out the mobility kit for the spare tire kit at no charge if I wanted. Thought about it...and then thought about the last time I used a spare tire...and kept the mobility kit. (Last and only time I've ever used a spare tire was in 1996...in the parking lot outside of my apartment at the time)
yes, if not see your dealer, it should be in there it should look something like this (this is in a Rio but it should be similar in a Soul), can't show you in a Soul because in Canada the compact spare is standard on all Soul models.
My wife recently used the kit on a bad tire. Unfortunately, the hole was too large and the slime or contents just leaked out the hole as it was put into the flat tire. I don't have the receipt with me for the replacement canister, but seems like it was about $23-27 bucks or so. In her case, the stuff was useless, but I doubt she could have changed a flat tire, either. Getting a dounut is on my wish list. She said the dealerhip said they had then at about $200, so that pretty well matches the Ebay stuff.
The tire replacement was free, but not the slime stuff in the canister. I could not make myself toss out the old bottle with hoses attached to it. I am sure there must be some useful secondary purpose for that empty container, but my wife will likely make me toss it before I find a use for it.
this made me check my car last night, and yes I have the tire repair kit..... I cannot believe that a spare tire does not come standard.... shame on you kia
KIA has pulled the no spare tire on other models also, not sure which ones but there are others. I saw a KIA ad the other day telling folks how KIA had the donut spares now for your cars. Go figure, a buck is a buck, I guess.
there is other manufacturers are doing it not just KIA. In Canada I have seen the kit on the Rio in the LX+ model but the SX model had the compact spare.
^^ Yeah for real .... A lot of Manufacturers are doing this Spare Tires No Longer Standard Equipment On New Cars « CBS Denver .... Go buy a 45K Camaro .... No spare either .... BTW the Air pump does work well .... I used it to air up my tires the other day , I was surprised how strong it was ....
I'm curious about this. I was reading through my owners manual, and it's recommended to NOT use tire sealant as it will damage the TPMS. Will the sealant that comes with these cars be OK with the sensors, or is this a money maker for Kia?
You have to look at the tire sealant, some are approved for TPMS sensors and some are not. As long as it is approved you are fine. The can I carry is approved.
